Hey guys, my friend has a HP 2000 notebook with win8.1 and he has a "limited" internet connection issue with his free lan connection supplied from his apt complex. Laptop shows it has a network connection and after several reboots in hopes his laptop will reassign a new ip address and correct itself, well it didn't work. It worked at one point, and i figured it was probably a firewall issue being that his free Norton security expired and then he switched to bitdefender and that somehow screwed up his network security settings. I'm doing a little research for him since he doesn't have any internet connection and read that running the CMD line with ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew should in theory "renew and reset" his network connection and fix that "limited" internet issue, please chime in and let me know if I'm headed in the right direction.

1boxman, hard wired to lan directly to the wall outlet no router or switch in his set-up. His wifi and lan hardwired connection does work at other locations. Seems to be just at his apt, so that's why I think by somehow deleting all traces of his original hardwired connection and refreshing the connection it should be fine. Any thoughts?

His apartment is set up with TWC cable internet with one central router that has one single cable running to each apartment which each tenant can either subscribe and get there own private wifi or keep the free shared public hard wired internet access. He also cant access the apartment network room to do any resetting of the router if that would be the next option.

You kinda answered it..if it works elsewhere...than I doubt it is his laptop.. from the wall plug to where it is connected would be the problem...bad cat cable ..there config of there router..etc .. get a hold of super there..and start there before you trun the laptop into a frisbee :tehe: :okay:

1boxman, tried different cables same results and connected a smart Tv and it works flawless. So thats why I think its the laptop. I was hoping the ipconfig/release and renew would fix the problem. I'm heading this afternoon to give that a try and i guess last resort is to get his apt IT guy involved, it just takes forever to schedule something like that. I will post the results. Thanks for the help

Doing ip renew..wont hurt and even a dns flush ...but if this laptop work else where with no problem ... I do not thing its the laptop . But all so IE plays a roll in connect ..whether you use it or not ,could do a reset of IE . Did you ever look at the speed it is connected at when it says limited connection ?
I would all so make sure that the system is clean of any spyware or viruses .
