EDMONTON - Investigators in Edmonton believe a man who was beaten and threatened at gunpoint in front of his wife and four children was wrongfully targeted.
Police say the 36-year-old was confronted Friday night outside his home by a group of males wearing masks when he went outside to check his vehicle.
Police say the suspects allegedly beat him and dragged him into his house, where one of them then assaulted his wife, who was holding their toddler.
The other children, who were roused from their beds and saw the attacks, fled through the back door, and police say that's when the suspects fled.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital, but has since been released and is recovering at home.
Investigators say they believe the motive for the attack is drug-related.
"Some of the children in the home had to witness their father be viciously assaulted. The whole family is traumatized and shaken," Acting Det. Anna Sinclair said in a news release.
"We are asking that the suspects do the right thing and turn themselves in."
A dog is also missing from the home. Police said they don't know if it ran away during the attack or was taken by the suspects.
