The Amazon river floods every year and covers an area of 140,000 sq mi. In 2011 there was "the great flood" that left about 130,000 people homeless and exceeded over 200,000 sq. mi.

what causes the flooding there? just rainfall? here it is usually a combination of rain, snow melt, and ice jams

Just rain Nos... the Amazon produces about one-fifth of the world's fresh water... All that water going to waste and we are starving for water here. Lol..
