if you go to Lyngsat and they already have every DN channel listed as MPEG 4

May 31st the switch will be over.

DN has sent to all the customers that need one an MPEG 4 box

If your receiver is only MPEG 2 it is for certain an FTA receiver only

lyngsat still shows mpeg 2 but mpeg4 is coming soon

May 31st.I wish I had a Crystal Ball to see what will happen afterwards.I guess we will find out soon enough!

What letter I am from Vermont and I did not get a letter and I have 2 boxes from dn and I even called my dad in Colorado and he did not even get this letter what your saying.

Yes or that's why I did not get a letter from them I do not understand My dad has the old 311 and he still did not get a letter

I will ask my friends tomorrow and see if they got a letter.

They're not replacing 311 receivers.

The 311 is not a hd or MPEG 4 receiver I have one and it says MPEG 2 on the front of it and I also called and asked about it

Oh cause dish told me it was not MPEG 4 capable just passing on what I was told and they said if I want to go hd I have to up grade

The 311 has a Broadcom BCM3440 chip in the tuner. This chip can only output Mpeg2. It CAN be toggled to work QPSK or 8PSK. You don't have to believe me.... see what Broadcom says>>

Quote "The BCM3440 was specifically designed to work with the BCM4500" which is also used in the 311. Click on the highlighted 'BCM4500' and all you will see mentioned are Mpeg2 systems.

There should soon be a firmware update for the 311 (and other OEM boxes that use the BCM3440/BCM4500 chips) and then all transponders will be 8QPSK (Turbo) That will eliminate a lot of the older FTA boxes.

WOW! That really sucks as my friend just received 3 vip 211s to replace 3 301s. LOL! He also needed to have his dish re-aimed (replaced) as he was told sats 110/119 are getting switched to international channels, or something like that.

What? So if by chance our MPEG 4 boxes still work we will need new Dish Upgrades?Most dishes are aimed on 110/119.

if u have to replace the dishes the swap will take a lot longer......thats a lot of houses dish has to service.
