View Full Version : Golovkin vs Monroe
Tonight at 10 pm EST on HBO, middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin puts his WBA title and undefeated record on the line against Willie Monroe Jr, a sizable American underdog, in the headline fight of a doubleheader from The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Golovkin (32-0, 29 KO) has been smashing all comers for the last few years, and despite the fact that he's got a world title, the comers have been a bit limited. That means that one must give extra respect to Monroe (19-1, 6 KO), who is a major underdog and has by now seen Golovkin's fights, knows what he can do, but still steps up and takes the challenge.
The co-feature bout will see flyweight king Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (42-0, 36 KO) take on former junior flyweight titleholder Edgar Sosa (51-8, 30 KO). Like Golovkin, Gonzalez is appointment TV no matter who he's fighting, but Sosa can fight, even if he's potentially in over his head.

Golovkin looked like Balboa beating on a side of beef in Rocky IMaybe that side of beef was Kirkland after Canelo got thru tenderizing him........................

GGG hits like a ton of bricks... I agreed with Jones..Miguel would be too small
for GGG... Canelo wants no part of him..
As far as Ward goes,, he fights once every 3 years,, so screw him.
Let the busy contenders make some dough...
No one left for GGG to fight.. like they said..noone wanted any part of Haglar either.
yes ,, he charges, forward like a bull, no wonder the 33-0 with 30 Ko's

He ate a lot of leather for my liking tho.....says he can be had, just no one has done it yet.
yeah ,, but he spit it out ,,
cause it didn't keep him from the TKO
none of that leather hurt him ,, he's an animal

Just that who put the leather in his face didn't have a punch, someone is on the way to hurt him.
No defense make you vulnerable.

You`re so right....none of those Monroe threw seemed to hurt him or slow him down much and he`s like a machine going forward. My problem is that it`s too predictable, too vulnerable and going forward in his career it may very well be his downfall. I`m surprised he isn`t cut more often.

You fine gents left us in suspense,,,, WHO is on their way? Don't tease us.
The thing about GGG is,,, once HE hits you... yer hurt or gone... you would have
to hit him first and deck him..
I see no middleweight as a threat to him right now...
Floyd, you walk around at 160..... you and GGG would make millions.
Especially in Los Angeles or Vegas.
Fight someone your own size for a change.
That would be a great challenge for Floyd ,,, wonder if he wants any of it ?
I think the age difference is a big factor ,,, GGG is 33 compared to Floyd 38

Agreed TLG... but Floyd wants to break the Rock's record at 49... then go to 50...
Doubt he would take a chance against the G...
Floyd says he will fight in Sept. Wont be the G...
Plus Floyd would never hurt the G.... No punch.
Marquez is a little man. He decked and knocked Manny out... Floyd never hurt him.
Canelo has nightmares about GGG. He would be the logical one.
Ward fights like Floyd.... no draw.
G walks around at 165 ,,, yesterday he fought at 172
to fight Floyd he would have to slim down to 148 ,, in the ring he would rehydrate to 156
that slim down would be a problem, Floyd would certainly capitalize on ,,,
FLoyd has repeatedly stated ,,, "he's not stronger than his opponents ,, he's smarter"

Floyd can fight him at a catch weight of 154, G would go down for the $$$$$$.G is about the size of Canelo, he will never hit Floyd in 12 rounds, to slow and predictable. He'll tired and lose. This will be the fight everyone would pay to see.

Oh yeah,,, this fight could happen easily.. Look how much bigger Floyd looked against Manny.
Hell,,, he was 15 pounds heavier than Marquez when they fought.
155 would be easy for him...
But he won't. Doubt if I would... Maybe just one more fight, maybe two.. why take a chance?
Canelo is the obvious choce for the G man.
Yes agreed, they could fight ,,
should Floyd take the fight ,, he'll be ready for Golovkin's fight style ,,,
and your right, Floyd would figure out how to win it , (by decision) he always does.
Manny was also a power puncher and Floyd made him look silly ....
On another note ,, GGG, for his 33-0 with 30 KO's only made 1.5 Million for that fight ...
I guess it pays to be flamboyant, arrogant and an overall prick,, in comparison Floyd was
making 13 million after his first PPV event and 34th fight vs Gatti ... his 38th fight vs De La Hoya
netted him 25 Million ...
Monroe got $100,000 ,, a club sandwich and fries for his troubles ,,, after tax he took home $50,000 and the fries

You`re right pal...Manny WAS a power puncher.....GGG IS a power puncher and that`s the main reason we`ll never see this fight. Like rudee said and I agree....why would PBF take the chance of losing his perfect record?

Ok, I have the answer, 120 more millions! G is slow and gets tired after the 5th round. Remember Ali vs Foreman, well this will be a replay of that. Put GGG as the great white hope.

Floyd will never fight him.. As someone stated he wants those 50 wins and that would be a huge risk for him.. G is too slow as Fib says but if he catches PBF with one good one it would be all over as he is bigger and hits harder than everyone now a days. he is like a Mike Tyson Jr.....Lol....Even all that money would not convince him to take that chance.....Imagine how many years it took him to grow some "cojones" and fight Manny... He will choose and pick who he will fight get to 50 wins then he will keep going and going and will not retire until someone does it for him.....Lol

I see what you`re saying but for any of that to happen PBF would have to get in the ring with him ......and I don`t see that happening. Quite possibly you`d be right that GGG may come up slow @ the 5th......but the 5th is after the first bell and I`m pretty sure they won`t be in the ring together at that first bell.

Totally agree.............I could see PBF taking this fight if PBF had some KO power because GGG is pretty easy to hit.....but he`s also going to get his punches in....and that`s where PBF will back away from the fight.
May I remind you both,,,,,, you both, said the same thing about Manny .... LOL
Let's just say ,, Floyd would win this fight too ,,, by ducking, holding and countering ,,,, and of coarse , running ......
He admits it ,, "the only thing that matters is that "W" .... and at the end of the career , when the history books are
written ,, all everyone will read is the "W" and/or the 50-0
He knows his fights aren't pretty ,,, just that they're winners
No one will remember how it (the W) got there ,, just that it's there !!
