By Eric Thomas: As of the last count, there have been a total of 41,000 tickets sold for the March 13th fight between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum expects another 4000 tickets to be sold by the end of the week, which would bring the ticket numbers to 45,000, a sellout for the 80,000 seat stadium. The stadium seats can be reconfigured to fit any number up to the total seats available.
Arum had the stadium retrofitted to 45,000, so technically the fight will still be sellout, even though the stadium will be a little more than half full by fight time. This could be the start of future boxing events being held in the stadium just as long as the stadium owner Jerry Jones is willing to go along with the program. This would be an ideal location for a potential future fight between Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao if the fight can be put together.
ESPN is reporting that Kelly Pavlik and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. could be potential headliners in the Dallas Cowboy Stadium in the future. It will interesting to see what kind of numbers those two fighters bring into to the stadium, because I wasn’t aware that they were such huge stars in the U.S.
