Trying to understand why some folks have continuous freezing at times but read that others have none at all. This info is found on the Ultimate up/down thread. Could it be because of the receiver being used? I have a Nano premium wired to high speed internet with unlimited download. Thinking of getting a new receiver if necessary.

Could be receiver, could be because they are using wifi instead of cabled to their receiver. Could be weather. A couple weeks back there were tornados going through parts of the mid west and some members were complaining about freezing. I don't believe the tornado has to be in their back yard to effect their internet. Some members have to be closer to server than others and therefore, and I'm just guessing, that their internet would be a little cleaner running than the person that was thousand miles farther out. There was the odd receiver that didn't like IKS and would give problems also. I for one do not get the freezing they are complaining about, well not to the degree that some complain. There will always be some glitches but nothing to cause me to report. And there will always be legitimate complaints as not all will use the server at the same time. I see many posts about freezing and then someone will comment that they are running good, but there is a ten hour time span between posts. I do believe Ultimate is spreading itself thinner and unless they do major upgrades then problems like freezing will continue. There has been a couple of servers appear lately running under a different name but reselling ultimate. Fact is I've seen some say how great a certain new server is doing and so much better than ultimate when they are just paying a different person for the same service. Anyhow IKS will never be problem free so for those that are looking for the perfect server, it doesn't exist. Try a server for a short time and if you don't like it move on. JMO

What time do you get the majority of your freezing? If it's around 4PM EST - 10PM EST, it's most likely a server issue as this happens pretty much everyday on ultimate. Outside of those hours, the control word retrieval times are generally low and freezing rarely occurs.

I don't have a nano premium, but it probably doesn't have detailed logging showing requests to the server. What you can do is run Wireshark to capture packets on your network and filter based on ultimate's IP. Then look at the timestamps of the communication. If approximately 15 seconds or more pass by from the time of the server request to reply, you'll picture will freeze as you didn't get the control words in time.

Thank you timbuck2, you nailed the times right on. I will try wire shark. Thank you whoknows, my problem is that I can't tell what server is being supplied by who. Still learning I guess and I am probably buying the same server over and over.
