Rick DiPietro’s surgically repaired left knee has some swelling. He is sidelined indefinitely.
After returning from a doctor’s appointment today, the goaltender did not seem alarmed. “It’s precautionary,” the goalie told a trio of reporters. “The tests were good. Everything looks great.”
DiPietro theorized that taking full practices over the last week after more than a week off the ice may have caused the swelling. He said he became concerned this morning when the knee felt sore before leaving for practice. “You fear the worst and hope for the best,” he said. “This is close to the best as possible.”
Other than his bout with the flu for four days before the Olympics, DiPietro has not missed a practice or game with the knee injury since his return on Jan. 6. He praised trainer Garrett Timms for reining him in and getting him to the doctor immediately. “You don’t want to turn something minor into something major,” said DiPietro, who has played eight games this season after returning on Jan. 6. “This is a big thing we’re battling back from here.”
Scott Gordon only learned of DiPietro’s condition this morning like the rest of us, and chose not to speculate what it all means for DiPietro and the team.
