One of the fastest rising boxer of this generation, Gennady Golovkin is looking for the biggest fight of his career yet as he is aiming for big names like Carl Froch, David Lemieux, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
According to Opening Round, Golovkin says he wants to square off against David Lemieux as soon as possible. But the issue is the Canadian boxer is set to defend his IBF title against a mandatory challenger. After that, the winner of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Miguel Cotto will likely face him next.
Meanwhile, Barry Hearn believes a fight between Carl Froch and Golovkin will sold out the Wembley Stadium. The only issue is if he still wants to return to the boxing ring after a year of hiatus.
"I think Gennady Golovkin is one of the great talents at middleweight," says Hearn. "Now will he take that power into super-middleweight, where Froch is such a dangerous animal? It has all the ingredients of a great fight."
"Number one, it's certainly an 80,000 seater sell-out at Wembley, no question," Hearn added.
Lastly, Mayweather Jr. is not too thrilled to fight Golovkin as he told Boxing Scene that he sees nothing special with Golovkin's style when he fought Willie Monroe Jr.
"I finally got a chance to see the guy fight," said Mayweather. "Congratulations for everything that he's done, but even at my weight, he can't beat me."
"I don't knock him. He can't beat me," he stressed.
Mayweather also said that he is simply too smart for Golovkin via Opening Round.
"Even with me being at my weight, I'm just too smart. You have guys out there who can punch with both hands, that go to the body good. The thing is this, I do everything good. But my best attribute is that I'm very, very smart. He's a solid puncher, but he's straigh up and down...really no special effects, at least not to me. You could see him coming straight ahead," Mayweather said.
