Outspoken boxer Paulie Malignaggi refuses to recant his statements claiming that Manny Pacquiao was not a clean fighter when he achieved his record of winning titles in eight different weight divisions.
Malignaggi has been vocal in his assertion that Pacquiao must have been using some form of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in his prime, when he dominated bigger fighters including Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito, and Miguel Cotto.
"I stand by my comments on Manny Pacquiao," Malignaggi said in an interview with Boxing Scene. "I feel like what I've stated is the case."
"I have an educated opinion behind my reasoning of why I feel that way. I didn't just come out of it and pull it out of my a**," he added. "There have been a lot of great fighters in my generation and past generations."
"I didn't single out Manny Pacquiao for a certain reason. I singled out Manny Pacquiao, because to me, it was very clear that there was something very fishy about him."
Malignaggi said those who refuse to believe that Pacquiao could have used PEDs likely considered the "Pacman" as their "hero." "You don't want to believe a guy like that would want to do something like that," he said.
"To each their own; we're all entitled to our own opinion. You're entitled to your prerogative. And that's my prerogative and my opinion of Pacquiao," he said.
Malignaggi's opinion of Pacquiao has drawn the ire of the Filipino boxer's trainer, Freddie Roach, who has banned the Brooklyn-based boxer from his famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
Malignaggi said he still respects Roach, but is convinced that the trainer knows Pacquiao was using PEDs.
"I really do feel that at day's end, that Freddie will never admit it publicly, but Freddie was a fighter just like I was a fighter, and because of that, I feel like he knows," he said.
"Any fighter knows what I'm talking about and agrees with what I'm talking about. They just don't want the controversy of making those comments public," he added.
Malignaggi is a former light welterweight and welterweight champion who last fought in April 2014, when he was knocked out by Shawn Porter in a bout for the IBF's 147-pound belt.
