Kovalev vs. Beterbiev next? By Miguel Maravilla
After WBA, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight world champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev’s KO win over Nadjib Mohammedi Saturday night in Las Vegas, promoter Kathy Duva talked about Kovalev’s future plans. “He is going to be fighting in Moscow on November 28,” she said. “We’re looking to offer the fight and match him against Beterbiev. Thanksgiving in Russia, It’s going to be fun.”
Kovalev stated, “Whoever deserves the fight with me, I am ready for anyone. Pascal wants a rematch, or I don’t know. Whoever is ready. Right now I want to fight the WBC champion Adonis “Piece of *****” Stevenson. Artur Beterbiev we will see. Andre Ward? Sure. I’m open for any great fighters.”
Regarding Saturday’s fight Kovalev stated, “I am happy for my victory. Everyone asked me before the fight. KO or no KO? I tried to make the fight last as long as possible. My plan was to fight him a minimum of seven rounds. I will continue to do my job in the boxing ring.
“After the first knockdown he started to move slow and tried to continue to make the fight as long as possible. I don’t understand how that last punch finished the fight. It’s a result of our work at the gym.”
Other Quotes
Kathy Duva: “Once again he crushed him. Nadjib came to fight. We appreciate the fact that he came to fight. (Kovalev) did what he had to do to take him out.”
Manager Egis Klimas: “We are going to be working with Kathy to put on his next show by the end of the year.”
Trainer John David Jackson: “Sergey is a hell of a talent able to defeat the elite fighters. He is a pleasure to work with and to watch. I look forward to the future in boxing for Sergey.”
Nadjib Mohammedi: “I knew I was in the fight. Kovalev is a skilled fighter and it takes time. Unfortunately, I got thumbed in the eye. It’s the Mandalay Bay, the lights and the pressure is what did it.”
Mohammedi’s manager Vince Caruso: “Nadjib is good. He got thumbed in the eye. I don’t know what to say. We are fighting the best guy in boxing. He tried. I’m happy he’s OK. This is a case of a good fighter fighting an elite fighter. Nadjib Mohammedi will be back.”

I don't see anyone coming close to Kovalev... especially in that division..
Too bad he can't move up in weight... maybe he can..
Archie Moore, Bob Foster and Spinks did... Floyd Patterson started out as a middleweight.
Thats where the money would be for the Ruskie! He could start off with Arreola!!! ha ha ha!!!

Well Beterbiev already beat the Ruskie twice in the amateur ranks.
Not so sure Kovalev can take a solid punch imo.
If someone out there can trade with him I think he loses with his lack of defense.

From what I have read, the Beterbiyev fights were "narrow" loses (1 point). They were both middleweights at the time. In addition, Kovalev has matured as a light heavyweight. He has learned a lot of lessons over the last 8 years, especially with his fight with journeyman Daniel Boone. He is also a lot smarter these days. His greatest weapon is his "iron will". Although he has a very high ratio of KO's, you'll be surprise that he comes into the ring "without plans to KO his opponent".

Tons of difference between amateur and pros... like night and day..
The Ruskie is unbeatable in this division... move up Mr K !!!
He won't make too much dough fighting at this weight.. people don't wanna
see 3 round fights.
