So here is my problem all of a sudden my MSI laptop is hit and miss on start up but when it does start I get this message C:\ Programs Files \Elantech\ETDCtrllHelper.exe - this operation returned because the timeout period expired not sure if this is related or not

looks like the driver for your touchpad got corrupted somehow. Possibly even a windows update did it. Either reinstall the driver software or look for an updated driver

I found that for nuance problems I had to disable my touch pad unless the local mouse was not discovered. Generally you can find a check box in your "pointing device" menu on the task menu.
