I see from their site that Patriot is selling the Vonets WiFi bridge 54 Mbps very cheaply & I too want to know how it performs with the T5 as I might need to get one too, depending. I'm also in the market for a new remote & Sat meter.

I could not get a wifi adapter to work but had no issues with powerline adapters

Neigbours are using 2 Vonets WiFi bridges and they perform, well, like most electronics, need rebooting sometimes, but do work well.

So I bought the Vonets VAP\ 11G-300 a while back & am finally trying to instal it, I set it up okay I guess on my laptop but it doesn't want to work on my DL T5. When I go into network settings, right away I get the notice "Connection Okay" BUT there is no server # in the brackets. When I go into server setup, & try to connect with a server I know is good, it won't connect.
Maybe a setting is wrong in my Network Settings. For IP address I chose a random one, 192.168.0.22. For gateway, I put the ip of the Vonets, 192.168.254.254. I left the two DNS settings blank. I don't think I would get 'Connection Okay' if there was a bad setting there. I'm stumped.

yeah ur right, so I zeroed out everything, except for the Sub Mask 255 which is pretty standard, rebooted the router & ird, made sure it was programmed by my laptop with the Vonets site, it still won't connect. everything is static.
The blue light on the Vonet just blinks.

Do you have it set at static, or DHCP, Set it to DHCP (and save) let the router assign it a IP Address
That's how mine is set on my T4

When I do that I get a 'please wait' & then 'ethernet is not connected'. It won't repopulate. What does yours say in Network Settings?

What model of powerline adapter do you have? I would like to get one, I'm in Etobicoke west Toronto. I guess you don't need access to the internet modem, right? Just the wifi signal? Cuz I can't access my landlady's modem easily.

I played with it & it repopulated, Static IP is 192 168 254 100, Gateway & DNS 1 are both the Vonets IP of 192 168 254 254 BUT it still won't connect!! Damn.

Try one of these hummers, they do not need to use the internal WIFI settings or a USB port from your receiver as they supply a CAT5 output to the device, this is like a direct connection to the router with a CAT5 cable.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4P03G79012
Set it up and forget it, it has it's own power connection so it does not rely on a USB port to run it.

Damn, I brought it up but then I switched to Newegg.ca and now it won't access the US Newegg where your page is located.
So I guess it is better than the power one that Nobodyspecial was talking about?

I notice the ilink is sold at Staples here for $40 so \i might go with that but will wait for a reply from Vonets. It seems some have got it to work with the Dreamlink, maybe it's an issue with my landlady's modem which is a bit out of my control.

yes because the one side of the adapters has to be plugged in near the modem

I use them instead of the power line ones, that way your not having problems if your on the other electrical phase.

And if you use an external high gain directional WIFI antenna you can snoop for another unsecured WIFI connection, and piggy back.

Oh... what you wrote suggests that if I got my Vonets to power up through the 10w power input, instead of plugging into the DL's usb port, that might solve it?
Terryl
03-11-2016, 01:15 AM
What 10w power input???
It has to be in a USB port on the receiver or it wont work.
tOr0nTo
03-11-2016, 01:22 AM
There is a port on the back, next to cables out, for a 10v power adapter. Anywayz I guess that's not advisable.

I shouldn't have any problem. The wifi comes in strong in the laptop in my room, where my DL T5 & the Vonets are also located. My room is directly above the room with the modem.

My Vonets has it's own power supply, I tried to get it to work with USB ONLY (no go)
So i got a exturnal power supply, and with the vonets (updated software) got it working
Once i got it working, i assigned it a Static IP Address in my Routor, so it's not looking for ip all the time with (DHCP)
If i can be of further assistance, I will try and help, Took me awhile of PLaying with it and PC/Network to (recconize) the Vonets Wifi
That's the Key, you have to Pre-configure your PC/NETWORK/Vonets Software so it see's the Adapter first, then hook receiver up
Hope this helps

Are you sure that an independent power supply is what made the difference?
I downloaded the setup file from Vonets & did the config pages again but still not working. I'm missing something.
I've got windows 10 so I dont know how to go into the network settings to assign ip. I will need to research it out. How did you assign it an ip?

I am not positive, the power supply made the difference, but i did find info that other people were having
issue's with the USB Power from Receiver (not enough) so went with independent PS. which worked for me.
The other problem you May be having is WIN-10, I used WIN-XP to Configure Vonets software, once i had it
operational, I went into (accessed) routor Wireless settings and that's where I gave it a IP address according
to the Vonets MAC. ID.

Thanks for that, but the thing that makes me scratch my head is, when I attach my Vonets to the DL, The DL does populate the Settings & assign a sensible ip, 192 168 254 100, it even seems to recognize the Vonet, as the Gateway & DNS 1 are the Vonets ip of 192 168 254 254. So I will try to find a power supply & see if that makes a difference. I don't have a pc around with XP on it, that's hardly an option. Isn't there a way to access wireless settings with Windows 10?

Did you set the npiks setting to on , for your server info? In other words the page before it goes into entering your server info, it should say your server name there in the list

That is if npiks is your server name

I don't think your PC having Windows 10 would make a difference, the signal to the Vonets is coming from the router not your PC.

Should I assume you mean the Vonets.cfg or 192 168 254 254 page? Because there I can't see what you refer to. Also btw I downloaded the VAP 11G setup but it doesnt seem to open into any program routine. It just has an icon on my desktop.

On the dl menu, go to configuration, network settings, then the blue button for server setup. The next page it has a list of servers if they are all off your server is not turned on. Seems to me that the network is connected to the router.

No the ones I use are on, & I have checked re checked the data input, it is number 6 in the list though. Tell you what, I will fill out number 1 with the info & see if that makes a difference. I used to have an old I-link & it was sometimes fussy about the order of servers, I find the DL is similar in setup to the I-link 9500 I think it was .
italian1
03-12-2016, 07:29 PM
Also if you have more than 1 server , just turn on the 1 you are using at the moment, I had an issue if I had 2 turned on

It does seem to work like an I-link, so I have tried all that but it still doesn't work, so... I suspect the DL is connected fine to the Vonet, all the indications are there, but the Vonet isn't really connected to my Wifi for some reason..

But it's populating all the info in your network info page , that's why I say it is connected to the router

Have you logged into the router to see if the Vonets is in fact connected? Usually from your web browser in the address bar the web address is 192.168.0.1 , that should log you in , you may need the user name and password which was created by your roommate if they set 1 if not it may be admin for username and password for the password
tOr0nTo
03-12-2016, 08:06 PM
I don't know if that is possible as the router is my landlady's, I just moved in March 1 & she's not the most hospitable person, her English is not the best either, so I don't want to wear out my welcome with odd requests. If that were not an issue I would just run a dsl cable & be done with it.
The Vonets says it is connected, so it's a mystery.
Her isp is CIK (Customer is King) if that helps any. I think they might use the same routers as Bell. I tried 192.168.0.1 but nothing.
italian1
03-12-2016, 08:10 PM
Well you can try to lg into it without her knowing, by doing what I said. If it asks for username and password, try the default if it lets you in then you can check. If not it might be a username and password that has been created and the only way would be to get the username
tOr0nTo
03-12-2016, 11:07 PM
I tried 192 168 1 1, that seems it be it, it asks for username & password & I tried several but no go.
Even if I found out whether it was connecting with the Vonet, that would not necessarily mean I could get it working.
I sure don't want to ask her about it, as she was pretty nice about letting me hook up to her old sat dish. I don't wanna push my luck. Sooo barring any miracles, I will likely go buy a Dlink bridge modem at Staples that a mod on here reccommended. Set me back $40 but hopefully I can return or sell the Vonet.

Hey Terryl... The Vonet also has a Cat 5 connection to the sat receiver....So, unlike the Vonet, (as experienced in this thread), I won't need access at all to the wifi router?

If it has a CAT5 and an external DC power port then you would not need to use the hummer I mentioned, it will stand alone.
Then you would have to first set it up via a laptop of PC to get an IP address from the router, then just plug it into your receiver and supply the DC power to it and you should be set.

That reads a lot like what I have just done with the Vonets & though it populates with an ordinary ip & other settings, when I try to connect in Server setup it says 'server can't connect'.

tOr0nTo, what version of software did you use for setup/config, was it ver. 5.0.32.7
On the Vonets site didn't see any version for Win-10 only XP/7.
Believe Me I fought with mine for awhile too, i can tell you from all the info i got off different forums the Dreamlink
doesn't supply enough power hooked up to USB that's why i went with the external PS
Start with the VAP11G Config tool, let it search and then select your Wifi Bridge once it gets a IP Address assighned to it
Open a Browser and use that IP example xxx://192.168.0.101[/url] some people have said they added a port 8008 to the end of
address line 192.168.0.101/8008 to make it come alive/work. You have to config it first so it is seen and it can access the internet by itself, after that then hook it up to the DL-T5
Hope this helps

THere were 2 versions, one for XP/7 & one where nothings listed. I think I chose the one where nothing was listed, it was 5.0.32.5. Anyway there is a desktop icon but the program won't open. I will try replacing with the other version.
At least now I have a separate power supply.

I went to the site & there are 2 versions, one for xp & 200 & the other for 7& Vista. Nothing for Windows 10!?!? So I emailed them & will await their reply.
If I have to set up an old desktop, I have one or two sitting around somewhere, then I guess I will... but buying another adapter might be less trouble, but maybe I will have the same challenge. There's nothing in the specs that says the Vonet can't handle Windows 10.

OK, Did some more looking, found out that the setup/config program doesn't support 64-bit Windows
only 32-bit in Vista/xp/7, also you need a program called WinPcap 4.1.3 loaded first, then VAP11G_Setup second
I HAVE all the needed programs you need, so if you want send me a P.M. (EMAIL) and we can work something out
ALso found this posted (Today I set up successfully on 64-bit Windows 10 using an older version of the setup utility: 5.0.30.4)
