Halifax Regional Police said two people have complained about a man calling and claiming to be from Visa.
Halifax Regional Police are warning the public following two complaints of a man calling people around 5:00 a.m. on landlines, telling them their Visa card has been compromised.
Police say the man claims to work for Visa and tries to get his targets to divulge their credit card numbers.
"The person on the other end of the phone is very persistent and insistent on them providing their Visa information," said police spokeswoman Const. Carol McIsaac.
McIsaac said the complaints were filed with police last week. She said neither of those people gave their credit card information to the man on the other end of the phone.
The man who called had an East Indian accent.
Police said the calls are not legitimate, and anyone who receives one should hang up and contact their credit card company, bank and police. They should not provide their social insurance number or date of birth.
Police said they don't know if the calls were made locally or from abroad. They said the number is unidentifiable.
