I was wonder if anyone can help with IP question
I have 6 computers running using one modem router 2Wire 2701HG-G Gateway, when I checked the IP addresses using the command line (ipconfig) each one assigned different IP address, but when checked the IP using the internet Explorer (what’s my IP) I get one IP for all 6 PC’s, and when I want to hide my IP, using (Hide My IP) software. Only hides my computer IP, but the IP was assigned from the router stay the same, is that mean each PC have 2 IP’s.
And is it recommended to hide the IP when using IKS? If yes how can I hide the router IP?
Thank you

The ip that your router assigns each device is a local ip. You must have this to identify each network device to your router. These addresses are common to many routers and aren't unique. The other ip is your actual ip address and is the only one to concern yourself with as far as privacy.

so when i connect the receiver to the router, the router will assign new IPfor the receiver?
when you said (trhe other IP is the actual IP address) you mean the Ip i get from the comand line(ipconfig) or the one from the internet ( how can i hide my IP) page?

Yes, your router will assign a seperate IP to the receiver (as-well as all other computers/devices connected to it).
The IP that shows at those websites (eg......what’s my IP) is your actual IP address assigned to you by your ISP.
You can try to hide your IP useing a Proxy, but it is still traceable.

you mean the IP i can hide the one from the websites (eg..what’s my IP) its called Internet Address?

if the IKS the only device connected to the router, you think the IKS will have IP from the router and internet address (eg..what’s my IP)?

all ROUTERS have 2 side to them

in home owner routers they are call WAN (ISP) side and the LAN (network) side.

the IP range of 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 is whats called a NON routerable range on the internet so many have the same IP address, this range is use on the LAN or network side

the WAN or isp side most times has a true internet IP and is what you are trying to hide. . some cable company's use 10.0.0.0 and it to is a NON routeable IP on the internet.

Your receiver will always have an "assigned" IP from the router (even if the receiver is the only thing plugged in) because your router does not know if your going to plug more stuff into it or not........

You cant hide your IP address on a router or modem using software, you can only hide a PC's IP address if it's directly connected to the internet, the DSL/cable/satellite modem gets an IP address from your ISP, then if you use a router it gets one from the modem, the router then supplies an IP address to the PC’s connected to it, you cant mask that or you wont get a internet connection through them, they wont know who you are. (You can fix your own IP address but you have to know what you’re doing to make it all work right)

Using an IP blocker or masking program will only give you a false sense of security, it cant hide you from your ISP as your modem or router need to get an IP address from them, the only way to keep your self out of harms way is to not use an internet device connected to your receiver or hi-jack someone else’s internet service.
