Close to 118 kilograms of suspected cocaine was found inside the cargo area of an aircraft that arrived at Pearson International Airport from Mexico in January, the Canadian Border Services Agency announced Wednesday.
According to the CBSA, during a routine cargo inspection of a plane on Jan. 17, 2016, officers decided further inspection was needed.
Members of the CBSA ultimately uncovered two large wooden crates with individual cardboard boxes inside. The boxes, the CBSA says, contained about 100 brick-shaped bundles of what officers believed to be cocaine.
The substance was turned over to the RCMP.
In 2015, the CBSA says officers in the GTA made 149 cocaine seizures that totaled close to 700 kilograms.
