A few notes from around the boxing world:
• The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Wednesday selected the officials to work the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley Jr., who meet in a nontitle welterweight fight on April 9 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The referee will be Robert Byrd, who was also the referee for their first encounter, Bradley's hugely controversial split decision to win a welterweight world title fight in 2012. The judges will be Dave Moretti, Burt Clements and Steve Weisfeld, none of whom were on the panel for either of the first two bouts. For the co-feature between super middleweight titleholder Arthur Abraham and mandatory challenger Gilberto Ramirez, the commission appointed referee Tony Weeks and judges Adalaide Byrd, Glenn Trowbridge and Glenn Feldman.
• Cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk (9-0, 9 KOs), the 2012 Ukrainian Olympic heavyweight gold medalist, is the mandatory challenger for world titleholder Krzysztof Glowacki (25-0, 16 KOs), but because he has a defense scheduled against former titleholder Steve Cunningham (28-7-1, 13 KOs) on April 16, Usyk, a 29-year-old southpaw, will stay busy with a fight against Stephen Simmons (14-1, 6 KOs), 31, of Scotland. They will meet April 23 in Kiev, Ukraine. The Glowacki-Cunningham winner will be mandated to face Usyk next, as long as he defeats Simmons.
• Lightweight Anthony Peterson (36-1, 24 KOs), brother of former junior welterweight titleholder Lamont Peterson, will fight in front of his hometown crowd when he takes on Ghana's Samuel Neequaye (22-1, 15 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight bout that will be on the untelevised portion of the card headlined by junior welterweight titlist Adrien Broner in a defense against Ashley Theophane on April 1 (Spike, 9 p.m. ET) at the DC Armory. In another undercard bout, Las Vegas super middleweight J'Leon Love (21-1, 11 KOs) will face Nigeria's Michael Gbenga (21-24, 20 KOs).
