Multiple media outlets in Indianapolis are reporting that Roger Penske will drive the pace car at this year’s 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29.

The official announcement will be made by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday.

“We’re very excited about our Chevrolet pace car driver for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil,” said Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles. “It is critical to IMS and our fans that the pace car driver for the Indianapolis 500 represent the importance of this event and understand what it means to be leading the field to the green for the 100th time. Our selection embodies those requirements completely. We are looking forward to unveiling this year’s pace car and making the driver announcement formal on Monday afternoon at IMS.”

Penske, the 79-year-old owner of Team Penske, has seen his cars go on to win the Indianapolis 500 on 16 occasions - with Juan Pablo Montoya picking up the 16th at last year’s 99th running of the event.

Currently, three of Penske’s four full-time drivers in the Verizon IndyCar Series - Simon Pagenaud, Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves - sit in the top six in points, while Will Power is back in 12th after missing the season-opener.
