At least the child could not get into the enclosure and that's the way it should be not like the most recent case where a rare silver back gorilla had to be killed because of a careless parent. What a waste of a beautiful animal.

I'm still trying to figure out why they simply didn't tranquilize the poor creature. A little extreme to just shoot it. It's a zoo, tell me they don't have or use tranquilizers!!!!!

Depends on the dosage and what is used. How fast does one crash for a surgery? Ever make it past the count of 5? Lol

yeah but that is not shooting in with a dart and hard to control the dosage as well different effect if you hit muscle or an artery. saving the kid was priority and that was the only way to do it. just one of them things, the lesser of 2 evils.. had they gone the other route and the ape would have killed the kid then people would be saying why didn't they shoot it?
