This is an intermittent problem. Don't you just love those. Happens in about 90% of bootups.
When I boot up both WIN 7 PC's there is no internet connection. The network icon at the bottom right shows the yellow warning symbol. I must disconnect/reconnect the LAN cable and up comes the internet connection.
This happens on both PC's in the house at the same time. Most days both PC's have the problem but occasionally both will get internet on bootup. Both always on the same day. The common denominator I see is the modem/router from my ISP. I can access the modem/router configuration but have made no changes.
PC1 is hard wired to a switch which is hard wired to the modem/router. All other devices on the switch get internet on bootup.
PC2 is hardwired to another router (for WiFi) which is hard wired to the modem/router.
This all started about 6 months ago. Before that, no problem. It is driving me crazy. Any help appreciated.

remove the password to your administrator account if you have one. This way Windows 7 goes directly to the desktop without passing by the login screen and it should find internet connection immediately. I no this was a strange problem for many with Win7 including myself and this worked.

well the only thing in common is the main router itself. I would check to see if there is updated firmware for that but I think it is probably that maybe a Windows 7 update about that time might have changed a setting in both PCs. I would check to see if there was an update around that time period and if so uninstall it one one PC and see if it makes a difference with it. Or you could always roll backwards using a system restore point before that time to test it as well

No administrator password and no login screen so I guess that won't help in my case.

Yes a Windows update seems more probable than the ISP's modem/router. There may be a conflict as I have not installed SP2. I'm not keen on rolling back the system and not really sure when it started. The last modem/router recently burned out and they installed a new one, same model. PC's booted up the internet for one day a few times and then back to unplugging next day.

Have you tried moving the LAN's to another port on the modem that boots to the internet? Lets eliminate the cables.

The LAN port on or the other PC's (or both) may be going FUBAR, if you can, add a second LAN card to your system to see if this helps, they don't cost very much.

Moved both of them to different ports and no help.

Both either connect or don't connect in unison so I doubt both interfaces are bad.
Guess I'll have to continue getting up and bending down to unplug/plug the LAN cable on each bootup as this will remain an unsolved mystery.

Can you get into your router and delete any saved MAC's...oh, and both PCs aren't named the same are they? Most routers will assign an IP to a known MAC. I can go in and see my Home PC IP - 192.168.0.100, Jed's iPhone 192.168.0.101, I can delete those and let the router give them new IP's. Could be something as simple as turning everything off, deleting the IPs (obviously from only one PC) and bringing them online one at a time. Happy FD.

OK, do this....To both computers..
One.... go to the control panel and select "Internet options" then go to the "Connections" tab and select "LAN settings" make sure that the "Automatically detect settings" is checked, if it is not then do so and click "Apply".
Two....then go to the "Security" tab, make sure that ALL settings are set to the "Default" level, in some cases the settings can be changed by some updates and other programs to a "custom" level, this can affect LAN connections to the internet and other computers, if you have to change anything then be sure to click "Apply".
And three....go to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Restore Advanced Settings" tab and click apply, if something was changed by some download in this section it may affect your connections.

Try this may help.
run regedit
and go to this key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet]
then look at key named
"EnableActiveProbing"
If the value is 0 make it 1 and reconnect the network.
Or you can try using a static IP for one of the PC.

One done and was OK.
Two - I couldn't find the "Security" tab in the Control Panel. Is it somewhere else or called something else in Win7 Professional?

I have windows 7 pro and in control panel it is called system and security and from there are a number of options on the left... choose one and see where it takes you. This is my biggest gripe with win 10 as that you have to log in every time even tho you are the admin...it sucks.

The value was 1.

Rather than physically get up and disconnect/connect the LAN cable I've found disabling and enabling the network adapter does the same thing. Still a workaround.

Bingo, I finally got around to changing to static and it fixed the problem. Still very strange why the DHCP doesn't connect at bootup. Thanks for all your help.
