I am sure everyone has heard this already.... for those who haven't... Canelo vs Manny? Crazy.. Canelo would outweigh him by 25 pounds at fight time... But Canelo does like "little people!" But can't go up 5 lbs for GGG.

With Saul "Canelo" Alvarez set to fight in September, there has been a lot of discussion about who he is going to meet in the ring. There's still a while to go before the big Gennady Golovkin fight goes down (in fall of 2017), so you'd expect that he's not going to face any major challengers to keep that fight in place.

So that's why it's very strange that Golden Boy VP Eric Gomez said they were interested in setting up a bout between Canelo and recently-retired Manny Pacquiao.

What is even stranger? Gomez told Boxing Scene that they couldn't get Pacquiao - because he's already scheduled to fight.

"We're close to finalizing an opponent. We have a short list. We're very close. We'll be announcing it shortly but one of the guys we were interested in was Pacquiao. We'd love to do a Pacquiao fight but from what we hear he has a deal to fight Adrien Broner."

Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KO), an eight-division champion, retired after a win over Timothy Bradley in April. This is boxing after all, so retirements don't mean much. The fact that he's facing Broner (32-2, 1 NC, 24 KO) is pretty surprising though. Broner, a four-division champion, rebounded from a loss to Shawn Porter with two wins, most recently defeating Ashley Theophane by TKO. Broner didn't make 140 pounds for that fight though, so he lost his WBA Light Welterweight title on the scales.

It's unclear when such a bout would take place, or if it would be at 140 or 147 pounds. But it's certainly an interesting fight - the brash Broner would definitely talk it up, and it's a pretty big challenge for Pacquiao at the end of his career. Hopefully it actually happens.

Lets get it on.

The lure of a big payday sure can get them out of the woodwork. Manny still draws a big payday based upon his name and his followers.......I guess pride and compete level in your profession takes a second place.

Broner couldn't beat Shawn Porter. Pacquiao (if he was serious about this fight and not just a payday) would shut Broner's mouth and teach the braggart a lesson in humility :) JMHO

Close fight.......LOL I had given it to Thurman, although it was close, mainly based on those head shots you mentioned. Nice to watch when 2 guys actually come to fight not dance their way to the box office.

It was a close fight but yeah i saw many more devastating body shots from Porter than i did head shots from
Thurman the punch stats shows that. By the Booo`s at the end of the fight i`d say the crowd saw it differently too.
I guess i`m old school i judge fights on aggression not just the head shots.

Nothing wrong with being old school my friend........the fights were better, the fighters had some pride and toughness and showed heart when they climbed thru the ropes. Days gone by for the most part.

Thurman vs Porter was a super fight! not fight of the year though... the Molina vs Provodnikov was definitely
more exciting...
But this fight could have gone either way,, remember guys.. close fights always go to the champ..
An old boxing truth..
But really enjoyed it.
CBS did an excellent job on this.

"close fights always go to the champ"..............tell that to Hagler LOL
We`ll agree tho pal....Thurman/Porter was a good fight and a close one, one of the more enjoyable fights in recent past. I only saw the last couple rounds of the prelim.
