We had one here about 15 yrs ago, it moved the houses around it off their foundations. Gas guy left the dirt trap cap loose for the furnace. No one was home at the time.

We had one around here too several years ago ,, gas guy over tightened and stripped the gas pipe in the water heater
The mess looked exactly like the picture above ,, with several houses sustaining damage ....
The front door of the house wound up inside, through the window, of the house across the street ...
Thankfully no one was home and now one got serious injured in the neighborhood

In the first picture the house to the right with the car in the driveway when viewed from the news chopper it showed the far wall bowed out and disconnected from the rest of the house. The wall is all brick too so that house is a total loss as well. There was debris thrown quite the distance too so this was no little explosion.

IF it had been a gas leak, then i would have thought that there would have been a fire as well, there has to be some other source.

When my wife and I first heard about it shortly after it happened and saw the first news footage when they said that they had set up accommodations for those impacted in a rec center the first words out of my mouth was nope I'm going to a motel and let my insurance deal with the bills. No way I am sleeping in a gym on a cot after something like this happens! If I am going to get any slight bit of rest I am going to do it in peace and tranquility and privacy! Sheesh, a rec center, really!?!?!?! Sorry to hear you can't get into or use your house because it is badly damaged or sealed off for investigators but we have a cot for you. I don't think so.

Exactly.....rec center my butt. I`d think your own house insurance would have to kick in here somewhere besides sitting back collecting premiums.

It does but not sure exactly what the section would be. I would have to ask my wife since she's a broker and would know.

I talked to my insurance broker who is a good friend and he said I'm covered well. Just go to a Hotel and keep all your receipts. Call me and I will deal with it all.
