Stop driving these 7 Hondas, Acuras immediately
The cars in question have up to a 50 percent chance of airbag inflator failure, which can lead to serious injury or death. This is not a drill.
This is too serious for me to start with some witty opener. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says seven Honda and Acura models have a "substantially higher" risk of Takata airbag inflator rupture -- up to a 50 percent chance.
If you have a recall notice, and you're still driving your car, you need to stop right now. Right. Now.
These seven vehicles possess that substantially higher risk: 2001-2002 Honda Civic; 2001-2002 Honda Accord; 2002-2003 Acura TL; 2002 Honda CR-V; 2002 Honda Odyssey; 2003 Acura CL; 2003 Honda Pilot.
Thankfully, some 70 percent of these vehicles have already been recalled and fixed. However, NHTSA points out that this leaves 313,000 rolling time bombs out there on the road. Saying, "Oh, I won't get into an accident," is not a solution -- collisions happen whether you want them to or not, and this is not a problem to be treated as a trifle.
The fix is free, parts are available and the dealer will likely set you up with a loaner. If you are part of the remaining 30 percent, or know someone that is, I implore you to convince them to pull over, call a tow truck and get that car to a dealership ASA-freaking-P.
Even NHTSA's press release his this ominous line in it: "NHTSA and Honda are asking for the news media and public's assistance to find the remaining unrepaired vehicles. Drivers of these vehicles should immediately visit SaferCar.gov to check whether their vehicle has any outstanding safety recalls."
