Is it possible to use a different power cord other than the factory cord. mine is acting strange, when turning on the power from the back on the display it will say boot than 4 lines. So when i hit the stand by button on the stb or the remote it will do nothing. so i grabbed the power cord from my t5 in the bedroom and it turns on. Just wondering if i can run to the local electronics parts store and buy a replacement?

Don't you mean a new power adapter???

A power cord by it's self would not affect anything. it would work or not.

A new AC to DC power adapter is what I think your talking about, if you go get a new one bring the old one with you as they come with many different sized output connectors, DC voltages and output current, not all will fit your box.

And try to get the DC output voltage the same as your old one, also the output amperage, it can be higher then the old one but not lower, if yours is rated at 13.5 volts DC at 1.5 amps then you need one rated at 13.5 volts DC 1.5 amps or higher.

Your receiver will only use the current it need to run right, if it needs 1 amp and you get one rated at 700 mA you will have problems, but one rated a 2 amps will work fine.

Also have to match the size, and the polarity of the tip.

Thanks Terryl, i bought a new universal power cord that had the correct size tip and it powers the box. I'm not sure if i'm being paranoid but it seems like it might be running a little hotter than normal. looking to buy a cooling fan.:noidea:

Is it of the same DC voltage rating as the old one??

One with a higher DC current rating does not matter, but one with a higher DC voltage output then the device's allowable DC voltage input rating would.

However there is one question that has not been asked.......And that's "what caused the old one to start doing this in the first place???"

What are the spec's on the old power supply?

I've seen a few dreamlink power supplies cause problems, units power up but don't work properly.
