Ol' Jenkins, oh what a life he had.
Best wing man to a 16 year old lad.
Left unused, but salvaged by the dear klutz,
He loved his buddy with all his bolts and nuts.
Trusted comrade over the years.
Standing solid through laughter and tears.
He dreamed of a dottage,
Spent outside a cottage,
While beloved children climbed on his back,
And pretended to be on a track.
But came War, in its terrible fury.
Wrought by men, who thought themselves judge and jury.
He saw his dear friend pack a bag and leave,
As Mother's tear wet his khaki sleeve.
Year after year Ol' Jenkins waited,
His body rusted, his tires deflated.
He had but one wish,
One pure, though selfish.
And so he slept,
As the darkness on him crept.
Forgotten and alone,
In a meadow wind blown.
But i like to think he is happy,
Dreaming of good times with his chappy.
Pain of this world affects him no more,
For the horned gates of dreams gives him what he wished for.
