Just like the title, I would like to move from iks to iptv. Tired of dishes and cables and headaches. How do I make the move? What do I need? I am willing to learn. Where do I go to start?
Thanks for the help

its real simple
read up on the different boxes........buy one then you buy the service and you need good internet.......if you watch lots of tv unlimited internet to be safe
i had the avov i didnt like i have the mag box i like it there are others but look around at there pros and cons
some can do kodi it has free stuff but its too much work for me.....
mag is simple easy to set up and the remote works best

You don't need to buy "a service". Get a streaming box and install Kodi and some good Kodi addons and watch tv for FREE. It's not as difficult as people make it out to be. You do need internet download speed of at least 10 - 20mbps for streaming...the bigger the better. The Fire TV Box has the best remote. It's UHF and not IR so you don't need to point it at the tv or even have clear access to the box.

You don't need to buy ANYTHING to see if iptv is for you.The computer you typed this on is enough to test with. You can download kodi, poporn time, ect and play away.If you like what you see,you could then persue a convenience box , or an htpc.

We were assuming from his original question that he wanted something to connect to a tv, not using a computer, but your suggestion is valid if he just wants to try it out.

My suggestion was so he could determine if iptv would work for him in HIS environment. He could determine if his internet speed & bandwidth accommodate his needs, as well as giving him a chance to sample the programming & all instabilities without spending a cent.

Just remeber,
The nonpaying IPTV has everything, but you got to look for it.
I have found for movies and network-HBO style sitcoms, free IPTV is great, but most streams are only SD.
If you like to watch the news like CNN ABC FOX ect, they're not as easy to find, and I haven't found any news programs in HD
So if movies and sitcoms are your thing.. you found the right thing.free IPTV

There are a bunch of addons that offer channels in HD...you're not looking in the right places and not very hard if you can't find them :) You might even find a couple of them right here at Satfix if you look! ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNBC, FOX NEWS, CNN, ESPN, CW, ANIMAL PLANET, CARTOON NETWORK, COMEDY CENTRAL, HISTORY CHANNEL, NICK, SYFY, TBS,TNT, USA, SPIKE are just some of the channels that are in HD in one particular addon you can find here in the Kodi discussions (XBMC Guide) section.

Thanks for the replies, I knew I came to the right place. I do have 30 down 10 up speeds and will be switching to unlimited soon. I do have a little tv box (my son's) that I have been playing with. It's learning process. I figured if I could program an Atmega, I can do IPTV.
Thanks again.

First of all i wouldnt expect iptv to be as good as iks.The noof has the best answer to me here use your htpc
Home Theater Personal Computer it can just be your laptop. Those pay boxes will eventually kill kodi and get you into trouble and are limited to what they can do anyway.Softwares like url helper wireshark rtmpdump helper angry ip scanner udp status scanners and knowing what ip ranges to scan for content are needed. You need to know good flash media sites and how to extract the stream links from them to avoid adds which is the only downside to using an htpc versus a pay box but not a problem. You need to know good iptv sites and blogs that have media content and playlists and chatango to discuss the latest methods in finding and extracting iptv content.
Subscribing to to pay services is needed but i would let others do that because there are ways to get around
leaving paper and ip trails.Stalker isnt a good example but ppl are paying for the service when there are Kodi addons like iptv cowboys which is the latest working stalker knock off. There are many paid services out there that are easily hacked which is the latest way to get iptv there are thousands of these subscribed playlists out there
http://exabytetv.info/lista1.m3u
http://exabytetv.info/lista3.m3u
http://exabytetv.info/lista3.m3u
for those in the know add these links to vlc then open the playlist to see the content many of these subscribed services have mutli language iptv.m3u8`s are preferred over .ts links .ts links are limited to how many users can watch at a time.Dreambox web-if`s are good also as long as they are open and the owner isnt watching!
There are some good apps out there too, find D3n1ssf or any wizzy wiggers lol
http://freezonatv.blogspot.ba/ another good place to start
http://www.tvonlinestreams.com/
Theres a lot to learn to much to list you`ll learn that iptv is just as much as a pain as iks
and is not good as a main source of tv but good as an alternative.

Well stated Highwayman. The video quality is generally soft compared to sat, with the exception of movies on Popcorn Time:many are bluray quality, and better than sat.
As for most of the network programming out there, you may be disappointed in the picture quality if you're fussy about what you watch.I am.
For THAT reason I suggested he try a few programs on his puter to see if it's for him.

I tried wirh a one day free trial from a "Canadian iptv service" and you're right about the picture quality, nowhere as good as sat. My OTA antenna gives me a much better pic. I don't know if it is the tv box I am using or a bad pic is normal with iptv. Remains to be seen whether this is for me or not. Having just paid for a 6 months of iks and the guy shuts down makes me queasy about subbing with someone else at the moment.

You are not going to get good picture quality with any of these so called 'paid services'. I've been using Kodi and some 3rd party addons for my IPTV streams for over a year and a half. The quality on the addons I use is much better than any IKS and any 'paid service'. Plus you have the added convenience of having more than 1 stream for a particular show or VOD unlike the 'paid service' which only has the 1 stream and if it goes down your out of luck. Anyone saying that IPTV quality is not as good as IKS is not using the right addons. JMHO
FYI, IPTV Cowboys is now known as Golden Cowboys for those interested in that addon. It looks like a Stallion IPTV (Stalker) clone with mostly Spanish content.

I dont think were talking about the same cowboys http://i68.tinypic.com/2gy15rn.jpg
its a full stalker clone but the dev knows how to generate serials and macs.Do you care to share those addons you are using?

Yes, we are talking about the same Cowboys but the newer version doesn't work as well as the older version. Some of the addons I'm talking about can be found right here at Satfix in the guides section.

Ah i see you through me off with "FYI, IPTV Cowboys is now known as Golden Cowboys for those interested in that addon. It looks like a Stallion IPTV (Stalker) clone with mostly Spanish content".
The cowboys by new generation is a full stalker clone much more than mostly spanish content.
I really dont see any addon posted here that would compare to iks if you come up with
any others let me know i know there are some good private addons that are close but if
they went public that would no longer be.

There are three there (the IPTV section of Satfix) that have most of the IKS channels and a lot of them in HD and unlike all the Stalker clones that have come and gone, they have been very dependable. If you have an Android specific box there are addons like Mobdro, Live stream player and ustv player that are similar or better than IKS which once added to the Android can be accessed through Kodi.
The Golden Cowboy addon is mostly Spanish content and it looks like English content is being worked on. Caz'z Repo has a lot of IPTV addons you can play around with to see which works best for you.
