Hey, nobody, if you are DOS over at rookies site would you lighten up? I'm only at two sites anymore and am helping a guy with a project over there and would like to get on the site. In a chat you asked why I had an avatar and I suspect that it is because I made one that fits the site rules and have been there since 2005--for a while they even gave me a VIP status for some reason (think it was back in the days when I was more active and could contribute interesting code).

Sorry that I'm bringing another site's issues here.

Would not know how to contact the guy. It was just about checksums on the file used for a little used box--SunPlus as I recall. You can't really move a project when the site where you contact is not a place you can get to.
I kind of liked rookies site though. I posted the info about getting dss audio there on old prov boxes after MPG was shut down and then showed how to get that audio on regular (very old) FTA box--I did post on that last project here too. The site was pretty quite, but the Coder's Corner section had some good info in it. Funny thing is that I posted there about how to use text copy of forum posted on a file server site as a way to get around DDos attacks (might be a pain to update but hard to DDos a file server site when you can just post on an alternate file site at any time as long as the users can track sites used).

Its down because its still under DDoS attack. Having been a victim of same thing with having my site taken offline several times its my opinion there is no justifiable reason when its about someone not getting his way with threats, demands and attempts at blackmail.


I had to either censor a member, ban a member, edit, delete, remove this or that, make my attacker a mod twice or suffer the consequences which I did numerous times. I personally think some may be under some illusion that someone has made themselves a community watchdog that serves us all but that could not be further from the truth. Its all about not getting his way.


Just keep in mind one day it could be your site or some site that you like to hang out that is taken down for not craving in to demands that serve no greater good and only are self serving. Do this or do that or else. Give me an avatar or else, I am not paying for it because I am special, ban this person or else, remove my posts or else, remove me or else. I just think its time we call it what it is and stop pretending this is some honorable thing. There is no honor in destroying one's property just because you did not get your way on some threat. Lets not be glorifying this or give it some creditability. Lets not be honoring some illegal act and lets not be thinking well its ok because it serves the community. I am here to you that is bull chit at lest in my humble opinion. I do understand some might not agree with me that is fine but I wanted to share how I see it and not be afraid to say it.

It was up for a couple of days, now it is being redirected to Sucuri CloudProxy--pretty much what was happening for a few days before it was up. I'm guessing that the bots are still active and the site is trying to block them out, or something along those lines.

I am guessing its a technical problem between their host/server and Sucuri. If it was bots don't think the page would end up on Sucuri firewall page.

Yep, that is why in my post I gave an apology for bringing another site's issues here. But as that other site is down (still) I can't really bring it up there. It is still under DDos attack and that is the topic (sort of).

Bad actors have been an issue for internet since it started. I recall reading an interesting book about hacking in the old days (when PCs did not exist), spammers, more hacking, phishing, trolls, bullies--it just goes on and on. Not sure why, but doesn't it make more sense to be a good actor and not a bad, and to stop what seems to be poor cycle of behaviour by not going there? There are lots of FTA sites around and you can't find a fit for yourself at one, try another. Ddos attacks seems to be a poor way to treat folks that, are at the heart of it, trying to help others. Sounds "Goody two shoes" or bleeding heart, perhaps, even to me, but you get what you put out--karma.

I know that I, and likely lots of other folks here, would love to have the skills to do DDos and other hacking. The thing I question is if a war is needed when what happened was likely a misunderstanding in the first place--both sides seem equally to blame. That is all I have to say in this thread.
