i am about to set up an all-glass 125 gallon aquarium with their stand . it will be in my basement so load bearing is certainly not an issue. my question is whether or not to use rigid styrofoam under the tank. 1" thick is all that is availiable in my area. i will of course shim the stand to make it level.
many thank you's

this will be one of those some do and some don't answers......some use styrofoam just for the insulating purposes.....but I think it would most definitely be required for an acrylic tank as compared to a glass tank.....check with the Tank manufacturer and see what they recommend......then it'll be on them if something should go wrong....

Since a liquid gallon weighs approximately 8.35 pounds, 125 of them would = about 1,044 pounds. You are gonna need some pretty dense styrofoam, lol.

for sure.....:tehe:....that's why I am sure that was figured in by the manufacturer with the thickness.......

Hopefully, being in a basement/cellar, it will be supported by concrete. Maybe rickr709 will answer as to base.

Don't use Styrofoam as a base. it's not consistent enough. The tank should sit solid then you could affix foam to it for insulation. but then again I don't mess with small aquariums the smallest I ever built was 36,000 gal with 2" glass.
