Luv ya bro........................I always get such a huge rush from watching the stunned look on Hearns face 2X....once just before he hit the canvas and in rnd 1 when he unloaded that famous devastating overhand right on Hagler and Hagler kept a comin`. I`m from Detroit area (Windsor) so we listened to a lot of smack coming from Kronk. Hagler was my fav fighter of all time............BTW No way did Leonard beat him.

Ha ha !! I knew you would like that ma'Man
We were spoiled in the 80's with some extremely awesome fight talent
One of my all time favorites was Leonard vs Hagler ,,,
Talking about brings instant memories of where I was, where I was sitting and what I was drinking ... LOL
and also,, the other thought that comes to mind is Leonards bouncing laces .... What a Great Fight !!!
don't know who won that fight,, but the judges said Leonard did !?

Couldn't agree more bro. For me that was the greatest fight to date.

Did Sugar Ray win some rounds in the last 10 seconds?......of coarse, besides a knock down or knock out, that's how you win rounds in judges eyes.

Classic rivalry, brings back some memories when boxing actually mattered to me.

That was maybe the best fight ever, if you like total slugfests. Foreman vs Ron Lyle, from 1976 was another slugfest from back in the day that comes to mind.

Much to his credit Sugar Ray Leonard later on admitted on the media circuit that in his viewing the fight he did not do enough to take the belt from the Champion, in fact none of the top fighters of the day agreed that Leonard should not have won the fight in a championship scenario.
If they were 2 nobodies in the ring....yes Leonard won the fight, but IMO you have to do more than audition for Dancing with the Stars to take a belt away from a champion. Leonard won the fight because he was outgoing, outspoken, well spoken, good looking, flashy and a guy that could sell a fight both in the ring and on the media circuit. Hagler was an introvert who simply went out won his fight and went home till the next one.
In short Ray Leonard was a poster boy for the sport of boxing to make money.
Hagler knew why he lost the fight full well and said it on several occasions just before he pretty much withdrew from the spotlight. He wasn`t giving promoters what they wanted......a trilogy.

Yes sir my good friend.........from Pepino Cuevas to Roberto Duran, Hearns, Leonard, Hagler and others of the era were all a credit to their sport. They eagerly fought "the next contender".........they ducked nobody at no time...they were true champions. Not like a couple other showtime jackasses that waste so much time maneuvering fights they forgot how and why they fight. I wouldn`t disgrace Leonard, Hearns etc by mentioning their names in the same thread.

Thanks TLG. That brought back some great memories. While we are reminiscing don't forget what may be one of the best fights in history...The Thriller in Manila, Ali v Fraser
