Don't bet on that bud .... ottawa took the season series 2-1

My prediction, 1) Bucher gets one of his players to take out Crosby, who's already fragile from that questionable hit
2) the Flowers' playoff lucky streak runs out 3) the sneaky Bucher out coaches and out roughs Sullivans game plan

Key to winning, 1) contain Guentzel 2) irritate and rough up Gino M, 3) Anderson needs to steal one ,,,,,,,, or 4 :bawl:

Ottawa in 7

Key to winning is not to wake up Malkin.............and the reg season stats mean squat in the playoffs. I hope you`re right but did you see the NHL`s new ad??

Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf reunite in Eastern Conference Final after six years together with Maple Leafs

https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/XVzT6uVlgwd0_F8Iha2waHGiZtM=/0x0:3000x2076/920x613/filters:focal(1260x798:1740x1278):format(webp)/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/54760523/136536837.0.jpg

There’s certainly no absence of respect between Pittsburgh Penguins right-winger Phil Kessel and Ottawa Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and a special sort of feeling surges through you when you realize these two will get to face off against each other in the Eastern Conference Finals. Why? They spent six weird, miserable years on the same roster in Toronto and are now doing extremely well for themselves less than two short years later.

During the climax of the Maple Leafs’ rebuilding years in 2015-16, these two were arguably the most prominent players to be sent on different paths. On July 1, 2015, in a combination trade of a conditional second round pick plus Kessel, Tim Erixon, and Tyler Biggs, Toronto acquired Kasperi Kapanen, Scott Harrington, and Nick Spaling from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Maple Leafs also walked away from that deal with a 2016 conditional first and third round pick.

If you’ve forgotten, that’s the year young hot-shot Auston Matthews came to the city of Toronto, even though that pick from Pittsburgh was traded away and not used for him. Not a bad trade-off in retrospect, but at that moment, Toronto had just gotten rid of their best offensive player. Moreover, we all knew the relationship Kessel had with the Leafs organization — especially with the Toronto media. Here’s a fun refresher if you don’t:

Couple that with the bizarre hot dog story from Steve Simmons and Kessel being picked last in the 2011 NHL All-Star Draft, Phil had an incredibly interesting half-decade in the Canadian city. He led the team in scoring in all of his six years there, and provided them with 446 NHL games, 181 goals, 213 assists, and 394 points just on his own. What his tenure in Toronto demonstrated was six years of hockey simply wasted by a really, really good player.

His buddy Dion Phaneuf was shipped out just six months later in February of 2016, where he and four other guys (one of them Penn State superstar Casey Bailey) were exported to the Ottawa Senators without the option to retain their salaries. This is still a miraculous feat by Toronto, even though its management didn’t have the same luck with Kessel.

Fast forward six years. Phil Kessel is a Stanley Cup Champion, and during that effort, he was reportedly in touch with Phaneuf throughout the entire Penguins’ playoff run. Not only are they still friends, Kessel has been very outspoken in support of his former teammate. In a famous, unplanned rant about the media scrutinizing Phaneuf as a captain, Phil reprimanded them in an interview, giving a slight jab at the Leafs’ higher ups in the process. “Is it [Phaneuf's] fault we're losing?" Kessel asked. "Did he build this team? No."

Now the two storied ex-teammates are opponents about to fight for an Eastern Conference Finals victory, the title of Champions of the East, and the opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. Plus, there’s a solid chance they’ll see a lot of ice time against one another, as the Senators will probably match up Erik Karlsson’s defensive pairing with Sidney Crosby as much as possible. Depending on Head Coach Mike Sullivan’s plans for his forward lines, Phaneuf, and his line mate Cody Ceci, may see a lot of Kessel and Evgeni Malkin throughout the series.

It’s clear these two guys have done well for themselves since being tossed from Toronto to their respective new homes.

I’m sure they’ll be all smiles come puck drop tonight.

Now there`s the definition of stealing a game...............great job by the Sens defense jamming up the high slot and in defending in front....... and then take advantage of Pens mistakes when they got frustrated. Don`t know if I`d make it a game plan tho....Andersen sure saw a lot of rubber and I wouldn`t rest my hopes on that many Pens chances coming up empty. Beautiful GW goal by Ryan...Not sure too many realize how good that move and shot really were.

Hope for the Sens sakes that it wasn`t their game plan to sit and wait for breakouts cause they`ll get killed doing that...can`t expect to win a game like the one they played. It`s a nice bonus when you do but I wouldn`t make it a habit.

The real dirty game is tonite Ducks/Preds....I love Getzlaf but Jesus he got away with freakin` murder last game. The kid with heart is Ryan Ellis ex Spits guy if you get my drift.....how he got up after crashing into the boards like that is all heart.

"intent"= no goal....no way it was a goal, not even close. It was covered when Burrows shoved everything in sight into the net.

We have refs teasing the puck drop,,, which prolongs attention to these idiots as if they are the main event
We have these ridiculous video goal reviews ,, which again puts the game of hockey in the refs hands
We have these ludicrous coaches challenges over a millimeter decisions ,, which again puts the game outcome on a review
We also now have "intent to blow"

Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are “good hockey goals”). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a “goal” or “no goal” call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the referee has blown his whistle (or intended to blow his whistle) after having lost sight of the puck.

The game is over dependant on the refs and the rules are getting sillier by the year ,, last night's goal was the result of a "bang bang” play in which the puck crossed the line during the scrum and the puck slides and gets tucked past the goal post and the goaltenders pad.

And here is where it gets silly ,,,,, depending on the ref, one ref sees the action as a hockey play while another sees it as a reason to blow the play dead.

it's not a concern unless it's a game deciding call ,,, and who watches 2-3 hours of hockey just to have the whole game decided by a referee ??

Last night I saw a hockey goal
