Is the "Great One" about to get back in the game?

It appears as though Hockey Hall of Famer Brett Hull is attempting to put
together a group to purchase the Dallas Stars from owner Tom Hicks.
According to a published report in the Dallas Observer, Hull is attempting to
bring Wayne Gretzky and Mike Modano on board.

"It's nothing formal, as if they're about to sign on the dotted line," a source
told the Observer. "But it's gone past kicking the tires. This could happen."

While the Observer is reporting that the deal is possible, at least one of the
potential owners mentioned was unaware of any looming transaction.

"I haven't spoken to Gretzky about any possible ownership situation,"
Modano told the Stars' PR. "I don't know anything about this."

In addition sources tell TSN that Hull has spoken to Gretzky about the
possible sale, however the two have not communicated on the subject for
more than six weeks.

Gretzky recently sold his minority stake in the Phoenix Coyotes when the NHL
purchased the franchise following the team's bankruptcy re-organization and
stepped down as the team's head coach.

Meanwhile Hull is the Stars' executive vice president while Modano, who
recently returned from an appendectomy, is the Stars' franchise leader in
virtually every offensive category and helped the team capture the lone
Stanley Cup in franchise history in 1999.
