My old T5 won't connect to server easily.

My T5 has worked fine for the 5 or so years I have used it, steadily, but now maybe time is catching up. When I turn it on, it never connects with the server right away like it used to. Often it never does unless I turn it off and on again. Sometimes I have to reboot and test to see if the server connects several times until about 3-4 tries and it finally is in the mood to connect. Luckily when it does connect, it does not disconnect for a good while, maybe an entire hour show but if I ever turn it off, I have the same problem. Btw the HD modem is quite new.

The Network Settings will be all zeros. Says that it can't connect to server even though my separate laptop does without issue.

I connect directly to the modem with a dsl cable, to eliminate possible wifi problems. Btw when I connect a Vonets wifi adapter there is no improvement.

Also I have reinstalled the software as per the instructions on this site. No improvement either.

Anyway, before I go shopping for a new box I thought I'd run it by y'all.

Sounds like a IP conflict, is it set to "Static" or DHCP, if static move
it to THE other setting, and let the modem/router assign it a IP
other than that I'm not sure,

That's a good point- I'm not completely sure what that setting does but I assume that static keeps the ip at the address it is currently set at, while DHCP allows it to be altered by the server or whatever. I donno even what DHCP stands for.

Anyway I will mostly try to leave it on DHCP. My DL is currently working okay btw. Maybe someone in the house I live in was bringing up an ip address that it wanted to use. I share the wifi with about 7 other people :s

the router/modem sets up or assigns the IP to the "Device" on the fly sort of and "static" always the same

Thanks but I just spent several minutes rebooting over and over before it captured an ip address. Wish there was either some shortcut to help it or some hint re how to make it hold on to one better. Otherwise I guess I better shop for a new box.

A new box isn't going to help, if it is IP address, internet issue, which is i believe what it is, especially sharing with 7 others
any way you can get it hooked up wired

I made my comment about sharing with others due to frustration and not assessing at that moment, the actual setup. It is indeed connected directly with a good dsl cable.

THe reason I think it might be the age of the box= I haven't experienced this problem with it before. 5+ years is a long time to have a box, maybe even one with as reliable a reputation as the T5. I have had it on, usually, several hours a day.

try a new power supply, it could be getting flaky. Are you in an apartment sharing wifi, can you get a wired connection and try it?

The only other thing that might effect it is "Heat" ? power supply or something over heating ?

Most of the time, and especially since this problem arose, I have a direct dsl connection. Earlier I tried hooking up to the Vonets but no improvement. I guess later I will take the cover off and look for any visual cues that anything, especially the power supply, looks burned out. Also maybe I will take it to an electronics tech on Monday.

I just felt it and it does feel hot, but usually when they have been on a while they feel hot though, right?

I should think that an overheating issue would cause the problem to get worse the longer it is on. It seems the opposite to that- it won't get the ip when I first turn it on but after it finally manages to get one, it holds on to it a good while- until I turn it off or something.

I read the post, and their problems were signal loss and rebooting, not my ip grab issue, but it's something more to consider...

I noticed my new cheapy amplifier uses same power adapter as my dl so I switched them, so am using a new power adapter & will see how it goes in next few days. Amplifier works fine with the old adapter though but maybe it's just less sensitive.
