My inlaws need a dtv converter (till the tv needs to be replaced again). I bought one and it only got the digital stuff. Regular non digital channels ( yes we still have them in canada for 2 more years) had to be recieved using the tv remote. This is way too difficult for a pair of 70+ seniors to figure out does anyone have a suggestion for a converter box that can be used for both digital and anolog station reception?

What you need is TV with dual tuners in it. The way it works is all new HD ready TVs now a days come with two tuners - One for NTSC (old Analogue Standard - Canada still works even HD) and the second tuner ATSC the new digital TV standard.
I am not sure who makes a box with two tuners which you can hook to the out doors antenna and to analogue TV. Please google for dual tuner box.

You got me curious too, so I found this answer....
its a C/P from here...
http://www.ezdigitaltv.com/Analog_Pass-Through.html
Analog Pass-Through Feature
If you receive over-the-air TV signals from a low-power TV that does not have to switch to "all digital" this year, you will still be able to receive those analog signals after the Digital to Analog Transition.
If you also receive TV signals from a full-power TV station that will be switching to all digital, you need to consider what type of converter box to buy. The converter box changes the digital signal to an analog signal to view on your TV set.
If you want to be able to watch channels from both analog and digital TV stations, you may want to buy a converter box that will allow the analog signal to pass through to your TV set.
If you do not purchase a converter box with an analog pass-through feature, you may have to physically disconnect the box every time you change from a digital channel to an analog channel.
Now.... where to find them.....
Try here....

.....and search for the ones with the analog pass through option.
Good luck!

unless I misunderstand this you still need to use and keep track of 2 (TWO) remotes. Why cant theadd on tuner also scan for anolog stations like my new tv does. That way only 1 remote and no splitters (and the resulting loss)? Im trying to make this easy for two 70 plus seniors in the country (no cable) and they will never be able to rmember two switch form this to that and back again. Me I just got rid of all my vcrs and old tvs ( filled up the dump some more cause theres lots of room there).

The pass through works the way he is talking about...you turn off the digital receiver, and it then lets the analog signal pass through, and the channels are changed with the TV remote. That's the way mine works. Pretty simple really.
DAStump. No need for splitters this way. Just turn off the digital box, and the analog automatically comes in. Change channels with tv remote. Only thing to remember is to put it back on channel 3 when you turn on the digital box again.
