Working a new motor change out.
Pretty much the same as my truck but this one is a
96 Tahoe. Same motor. 350 5.7

There is a vacuum type do hicky that is on the back of the intake manifold.
On my truck this thing is capped with a stock plug. How ever on this truck it has something I can plug a hose into. I tried to look it up but I can't even figure out what to call it.
Anyone know what it is for and or what I hook into it?

Picture attached.

Thanks as always for the awesome help.

Somewhere located by the radiator or on the front of the engine compartment there should be a vacuum diagram of where things go.

If the two trucks are indeed identical then this should be plugged like yours.

It could be the vacuum supply to the dashboard.

After you get it in and there is a hose that size left over it could be that connection.:noidea:

one possibility is, it is for the transfer case........;)

Yeah the intake is identical to mine cept mine is plugged.

This tahoe is newer then my truck and the TBI is a little different.

After hooking up everything I can't find any hoses left over lol.
The motor runs with out it plugged, except idles at like 2k RPM. If I put my finger on it to plug it the motor will idle down.
It has lots of suction.

I did check the vacuum diagram on the Rad cover but does not show this thing.

Ill check the transfer case next time I need to do a beer run :D

I started reading your posts starting with the return trip from Jamaica. What did happen to your original engine?

I am going to look at my 95 Tahoe today, maybe the vac line is similar on mine ,,,,,,,, let you know if I find anything helpful.

ps Crystal was on sale at the beer store $10.00 off a two four.

that could be for ur PCV valve...

see that hole on ur valve cover...

thats where a PCV valve is inserted and connects to the intake manifold...

Soah I looked on my 95 tahoe it has a small vac line that goes to the fitting on the AC condensor on the firewall passenger side. lin e goes into a fitting that faces forward toward the grill. The line is small about 1/8 inch.

Hope this is some help.

Ah yes, I found it. Thx Ron3033.

I still have no clue is to what was wrong with the original motor on my truck lol

But I got ta tell ya the new motor is like night and day different.
I am thinking that it just had so little compression that it wouldn't start any more. 233k on her so it was time for a new one.

Yep probably wore out. My buddy who also drives a VW told me the mechanics at his VW garage told him about a man whose VW was done according to their best knowledge. He put in Lucas oil stabilizer..... it is still going 4 and a bit years later. Maybe coincidence or bad determination by the garage.

Who knows, but I tried some in my two vehicles, as I had bought it before he told me this story.

hope your on the road now
