The famed-boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has failed a drug-test following the discovery of trace levels of Clenbuterol in his system.

It emerged today that Canelo tested positive for trace level amounts of Clenbuterol, something that was confirmed by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions in the moments that followed the news breaking.

They claim that the amount of the substance found in Canelo’s system is consistent with the possibility of meat-contamination and as a result, he and his team will move their ongoing training camp from Mexico to the US.

Canelo’s pro-record of (49-1-2) has seen him only lose out to the legendary Floyd Mayweather and with his next matchup, he has the chance to earn himself the biggest win of his career to date.

Alvarez is set to rematch Gennady Golovkin on May 5 after their warmly-received first meeting last September, although the result of that fight still remains in question to this day.

While it is still unknown if their second fight will be affected by this development – even if the claims made by Golden Boy Promotions are true, but we will keep you updated on this story as it develops.
