I have low bandwith (about 4gb) but mag 254 works ok with IPTV on SD channels. What I am finding is most services have most HD channels. Is there a server that has lots of SD channels or should I upgrade to a newer box that uses less bandwith if that is possible. Thanks for any input

I think IPGuys uses lower resolution streams and that seems to help with users that have lower bandwidth speeds. I assume you meant 4Mbps (and not 4gb) - sounds like you're using the old twisted pair cooper telephone lines like a lot of people - and that is a problem with the higher video resolutions.

The new H265 codec (High Efficiency Video Coding - HEVC) being used by some of the streaming services now (like OK2) compress the high resolution video streams more efficiently and use other advanced techniques so that they require less bandwidth speed.
So if an ultra hi def or 4K stream required 8Mbps bandwidth speed using H264 codec - you may only need 4Mbps using the newer H265 codec.
In addition to the more efficient compression - H265 codec uses other techniques to produce much better hi resolution picture quality.

The drawback is that the H265 codec requires faster processors to be able to decode this stream - and your MAG254 doesn't have the proper chipset or horsepower to do it. If you want better picture quality and still use your slower internet speed you'll have to upgrade your box to something that will do H265 - something like the Buzz.

Thanks so much. I live in rural area and only in limited. I get is upto 5. I have other fast options but have limits. I figure 400 gb should be good but with kids gaming and Netflix could be close.

probably best option is radiosity or wowtv using their APK on an android box. Picture really not great but works on low bandwidth like 2 mbps.

Thanks so much folks. Going to try and get service with low bandwith for mag 254. But if course will buy an android just for the fun of it.

Definitely can be close.. I have 2 teens, and last month (since they were on Spring break) with their gaming and 1 box with IPTV and with a little terrariumTV, I went over 600GB...

If you are using cod123 - that is IPGuys - so no need to change it. That service usually works good with low bandwidth. The downside is that the picture quality is not as good as some of the other services like OK2, IPTVExpress or XstreamingTV.

OK2 is streaming a few channels in H265 and it appears that those channels use a lot less bandwidth but still have good picture quality. As more services start switching over to H265 an upgrade to a newer receiver - like the Buzz 3000XPL - will benefit people like you with low bandwidth who still want good picture quality.
