DU is right:it wasn't the pursuit of money that drove the best coders.It was the fact that they could.Great coders like PGM left the "trade" because too many people made money off of his hard work, when in fact he didn't make or want a dime for himself.

What has it been now...nine to ten years since standalone. Makes for a nice thought and or rumor conversation but wouldn't loose any sleep over it. Imo if there ever was one coming the box should be patterned after sv with some updates. I'm sure others would have there pick or views on it. It's for sure it would be slightly smaller as they have made a lot of advancements in miniaturizing of components or guts as such. But again imo with the miniaturization you loose some longevity. Of coarse that helps with the sell of more boxes and or parts/modules etc. Not to mention it would make for one huge target.

I remember my electronics professor in the 80's being excited the Japanese had just come out with a 1 meg chip. Look at 20-25 years before that a computer took up an entire room, and look at today....They have been burning miniature transistor circuits on chips for 25-30+ years now, quality and longevity is based on the quality of the components and manufacture, not size.
DU is right, most FTA boxes are mostly empty space inside, its not for venting.....but I wouldn't recommend you fill it with blow....it might overheat....lol

Meet him ( PGM ) a few times along with his silent partner. Live in the same city. He quit when he was threaten by DTV. He is a very smart man, had a very good job back than, a family, and decided it was not worth the risk to continue, smart move. He did make some money, was a bit in between, surely could have made a ton more if he wanted too.

Edit: Because the 50 people I know that were FTA are now Android only. It's like 49 Android box users to 1 FTA user that I know. So if they want to kill the FTA market totally there are now 4 times as many android boxes out there then FTA. If there plan is to kill the FTA market then do this.

That's not what I read into it.
I think the poster was hinting at there may be a card hack - so there wouldn't be any need for IKS key sharing - we could get back into hacking our own cards.

If there is a card hack I don't think it would kill IKS or IPTV - it could make it cheaper for the IKS and IPTV servers to feed their servers. Instead of using legal subscriptions to feed their streams or control words they could use hacked cards.
Monthly fees for legal subscriptions are very costly for these server guys.

If the IKS servers have a cheap source of cards then that would solve the reliability issue those south guys were having - their picture quality is almost identical to a legal sub and with no freezing there wouldn't be any need for guys to move to hacked cards.
The guys that moved to IPTV because IKS was unreliable may lose some business - but IPTV offers so many different channels and VOD so I don't think they would be affected either.
