I’m finding out IPTV service is changing up from h264 to h265 , at that point the mag 254 won’t work . I have a mag 254 that uses h264 . I don’t want to buy a new box to use new service that’s using the new h 265. The big question is does anyone know if it’s possible to update to the new h265 ? Or we all just screwed and gotta buy new box’s

Nothing can be done to upgrade the 254 to run the h265. Hopefully some time.

i iptv service i had switched from h264 to the new improved h265 . mag 254 uses old 264 so it no longer works . you have to buy a newer mag box that runs on h265. it has to do with HD 4k and 3d from what i see. i don't wanna buy another box yet . looking for a server /service that will still run a mag 254
when i say screwed i mean they got my money i got no service

Lite iptv. I liked it , worked good for what I used it for . I’m only out 1 month cause that’s how I set it up . I think I may go buzz or mag 322 jut doing the research now

Are all of their channels H265 now??? I thought most of the services had only switched a few of their channels to H265 - and that the majority of the channels were still H264?

Only one server is transitioning to H265 at the moment. There are plenty of servers that can be used with a Mag254 and even newer servers that are popping up will work on a Mag254. There is still life in that old box.

1)Take into account that transitioning to H265 costs a lot of money that some servers don't want to spend. So your Mag will work on them.

2) Let's say an established server like IP Guys or Voodoo goes to H265. How many people will buy another box? How many people will dump Ip Guys and Voodoo and go with a server that still works on a Mag254? Do you think these servers want to spend money and lose customers on the short term.

3) We are in May 2018, How many servers will be H265 by the end of the year, or after a year. betcha not many. So again your Mag will be good for minimum a year.

By the time your Mag254 will be totally useless there will be even better boxes out there than there is today. :)

Agreed... I think if you're buying a new box today, then the MAG322 would be a better choice since it supports H265. If you already have a MAG254, then keep using it until providers no longer support H264. By the time you need to upgrade, the MAG254 will have saved you enough money to justify buying a new box.

If I had to guess, MAG254 users will be safe for at least the next couple of years, if not longer. There's no real demand for H265, so the adoption rate will likely be slower.
