A wireless mouse uses RF not IR.
The IR sensor IC should be on the front panel PCB, the sensor it's self should look like an LED with a clear front, make sure there is nothing blocking the sensor from seeing to the outside of the front panel.
Questions: Did this work before?
Is there a white or light colored wall close out in front of the box and TV set? (TV and box on one side of the room, facing a wall out in front of it)
I have seen problems with IR remotes being blinded by the LED back lighting on some HDTV's, LED back lighting is bouncing off the back wall and the boxes IR sensor gets swamped.
To test this stand in front of the box and try the remote, or turn the box so it can't see the common wall, if it works then you need a filter in front of the IR sensor, some have been fixed by using an old lens from a pair of polarized sun glasses, this is taped to the front panel over the IR sensor.
It could be a chip failure, or a bad solder joint, this could be fixed by someone who knows how to re-solder a surface mount IC chip, don't try it if you have never done it before, you could FUBAR the whole thing.
And as Nobody mentioned if it's under warranty return it.
