The BUZZ TV box recording capabilities are not very strong. It has been reported that any hiccup in the streaming will stop the PVR. In order to avoid that problem I am thinking of using an old DVD recorder that has only RCA input connections. The box HDMI output could be connected to the DVDR RCA input via a HDMI-RCA converter. The question is: will it work? To me the high definition capability of the box is not as important as to be able to record programs that otherwise I cannot watch. For instance soccer games that are played when I am not at home.

I honestly don't see why not.
Converting from HDMI to RCA (AV composite) would scale it down to 480i at best. Need to ensure unit converts it to NTSC standard (not PAL to SECAM), but other than that, I don't see an issue as long as the BUZZ box is on and tuned to the channel you want to record, and your recorder is set to start/stop as needed.
There are various qualities of these adapters around, and you do get what you pay for on these. There are some really cheap <$20 units on amazon even.
If this becomes a permanent setup for you, then it may be intersting to also get an HDMI A/B switchbox. That way, when you want to record, you set the switchbox to feed the DVDR, and when you are not recording, you can have it feed the TV directly. That way, when just watching TV, you don't always need to scale down to 480i by always going through the DVDR.

Thanks! Yes, it would be a permanent setup. Any recommendation regarding switchboxes?

I would use an HDMI splitter, less hassle.

Thanks, but I am not sure how this could work. I need an RCA connector for the DVDR. The DVDR does not have an HDMI input connection. The HDMI splitter has one HDMI input and two HDMI outputs.

I agree with Terryl, splitter would be less of a hassle.
From BUZZ, you connect HDMI to the splitter.. Then from the splitter, you connect one output to your TV directly (to watch decent quality...

It would.
But the setup I detailed above (and suggested by others) would include a splitter, to avoid having to switch back and forth between the DVDR and TV. Would be a shame to always watch...

Hello
I would like to report that I tried a GANA 1080P HDMI to 3RCA CVBS AV Composite Video Audio Converter Adapter that I bought on line and it does work. As with regard to the splitter, I did not buy it because the DVDR has an HDMI output which I connected and the video and audio quality are quite good. Our TV is HD but is a quite old model (from 2009) and for the purposes of watching soccer is more than enough. Most of the shows we watch are streamed from either NETFLIX or Google Prime and for those I hook up a laptop to the TV set.
Thanks to all of you for the good advise.
