A Dedication to our Veterans
Who gave their lives for our freedom

The Final Inspection

The soldier stood to face his God
Which always comes to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass
Step forward now, Soldier
How shall i deal with you
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To my church have you been true
The soldier squared his shoulders and said
No Lord, I guess I aint
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a Saint

I've had to work most Sunday's
And at times my talk was tough
and sometimes I've been violent.
Because the world is awfully tough
But. I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear
And sometimes, God, forgive me
I've wept unmanly tears
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here.
Lord. it needn't be so grand
I never expected or had so much
But if you don't I'll understand.
there was a silence all around the throne.
Where the Saints had often trod.
as the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,you soldier
You've borne your burden well
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets
you've served your time in hell.

On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour I ask you all to join with everyone in honouring all our Veterans who gave their lives in wars and conflicts, with a 2 minute silence.

The Remembrance day services stem back to World War 1, since then many conflicts have taken place, I ask you all to also remember the Police...Firefighters..and others who gave their lives in the line of duty.

If you can spend just a few pennies and buy a poppy, wear it with pride, and show that you also remember, your donation in purchasing a poppy goes towards ensuring Veterans of today are cared for in many ways.

May Your God Go With You All.

You might have noticed that in November each year
many people wear bright red paper poppies.
What are the poppies for? And why November? Read on to find out…

Why are these poppies so special?

The First World War finally ended after four long and bloody years
of fighting, on November 11 1918.
The guns stopped on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Millions of people were killed in the war and millions more were injured.
In the years since 1918
even more people have died in wars around the world including
of course, World War Two.

November 11 was chosen back in 1919 as the special day each year
when we would all think about and remember those who had died.
To this day, almost 100 years later
at 11am on November 11 many people across the world stay
silent for two minutes to think about those who died.

At first, November 11 was known as Armistice Day
'armistice' is the word used for an agreement between enemies to stop fighting.
These days it is more usually called Remembrance Day or Poppy Day.

So, we know why November 11 is special, but why poppies?
The story begins back in 1915, during World War One…

A doctor called John McCrea, who was working to help soldiers in France
wrote a poem in 1915 about the poppies
growing on the graves of dead soldiers. The beginning of the poem goes -

'In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row...'

An American poet called Moina Michael read the beautiful poem.
It gave her the idea of using poppies to remember the dead
but also to help the living at the same time.

Moina bought real poppies and gave them out to friends.
She also sold some poppies and gave the money to surviving, needy ex-soldiers.
The first official Poppy Day, organized by a charity called
The Royal British Legion, was held in 1921.

Poppies make a very good symbol for remembrance for several reasons.
They were the only flower that grew easily on the battlefields
after World War One. They're very delicate flowers too,
that only live for a short time, which is rather
like the young men killed in battle.

The colour is important too - what does the bright red remind you of?
Can you see why some people might think that fields of poppies look like fields of blood?

So - now you know! Those bright red paper flowers
are full of history and meaning.
They're very special to many, many people.

A Mothers Son
Written by
Whiteheather.

I always wanted to be a Soldier, just like my Dad
That's what his Mum said, about her bonnie wee lad
The years went by, he grew up strong
And in the Army, is where Jamie longed

the day came, when Jamie sailed away
His Mum on the shore, praying he'd return one day
Jamie wrote to his Darlin Mum
Dear Mum, this is Jamie, your loving Son

The guns are loud, the canons a' screaming
Coming home is what I'm dreaming
I can hear the pipes, I can hear them playing
Were coming home, they seem to be saying

The pipes they played, for a soldiers Son
Who fought the battle, who fought and won
Jamie's Mum at the station was waiting
A pain in her heart, the tension was creating

The crowd that gathered, to see their village son
All was their for Jamie's Mum
The pipes they played, The Battles O'er
As the train pulled in, they opened the carriage door

The flag draped coffin, carried shoulder high
As the rifles fired, into a cloudless sky
Jamie's home, he was one of the best
The pipes are playing, as Jamie is laid to rest

A soldier he was, from the cradle to the grave
For his countries freedom, his life he gave
Jamie's home, he was one of the best
The pipes are playing, as Jamie is laid to rest.

I went to see the soldiers, row on row on row,
And wondered about each so still, their badges all on show.
What brought them here, what life before
Was like for each of them?
What made them angry, laugh, or cry,
These soldiers, boys and men.

Some so young, some older still, a bond more close than brothers
These men have earned and shared a love, that's not like any others
They trained as one, they fought as one
They shared their last together
That bond endures, that love is true
And will be, now and ever.

I could not know, how could I guess, what choices each had made,
Of how they came to soldiering, what part each one had played?
But here they are and here they'll stay,
Each one silent and in place,
Their headstones line up row on row
They guard this hallowed place.

Remembrance day is a good thing and we should all pay tribute to our troops, specially to those that gave their lives, as I was in Vietnam there was death all around me, as I was so close to death myself it was God's will that I live.
I appreciate all of our troops for what they are doing for our country, may God bless each and every one of them.

I DO NOT KNOW YOUR NAME

I do not know your name, but I know you died
I do not know from where you came, but I know you died

Your uniform, branch of service, it matters not to me
Whether Volunteer or Conscript, or how it came to be
That politicians failures, or some power-mad ambition
Brought you too soon to your death, in the name of any nation

You saw, you felt, you knew full well, as friend and foe were taken
By bloody death, that your life too, was forfeit and forsaken
Yet on you went and fought and died, in your close and private hell
For Mate or Pal or Regiment and memories never to tell

It was for each other, through shot and shell, the madness you endured
Side by side, through wound and pain, and comradeship assured
No family ties, or bloodline link, could match that bond of friend
Who shared the horror and kept on going, at last until the end

We cannot know, we were not there, it's beyond our comprehension
To know the toll that battle brings, of resolute intention
To carry on, day by day, for all you loved and hoped for
To live in peace a happy life, away from bloody war

For far too many, no long life ahead, free of struggle and pain and the gun
And we must remember the price that was paid, by each and every one
Regardless of views, opinions aside, no matter how each of us sees it
They were there and I cannot forget, even though I did not live it

I do not know your name, but I know you died
I do not know from where you came, but I know you died.

Today we Remember ....please give 2 minutes silence at 11-00 am

there are some who will remember, and sadly many wont, perhaps it is just a day off for some, but to most of us, it is a day we pay tribute, to those, in those long years ago, gave their lives, so we could have our freedom, today the word Freedom is a word we take for granted, Freedom was not granted to us, Freedom is what they fought for, so please remember those of yester year, and also our troops of today. and we pray they come home safe.

LEST WE FORGET.
