just think how they use to have to build them when they did not have mechanized machines and that hole was dug by labors and buckets

They used something called a "Caisson" it was an air pressurized shell driven down into the muddy bottom, worked well except for one problem, this was the dreaded "caisson disease" or the bends as we call it today. no one knew what was causing it back then, if a worker came up out of the caisson too quickly he died a horrible death. No one back then knew about the nitrogen bubbles forming in the blood from highly compressed air if one cam back to normal air pressure too quickly.
