Gennady Golovkin signed a three-year, six-fight deal with DAZN on Friday that guarantees he’ll fight twice a year through 2021 and gives the online streaming service a formidable roster of the world’s best middleweights.
DAZN now boasts a middleweight lineup that includes Canelo Alvarez (https://sports.yahoo.com/canelo-alvarez-daniel-jacobs-meet-may-4-middleweight-unification-bout-220756360.html), the WBA-WBC champion; IBF champion Daniel Jacobs; WBO champion Demetrius Andrade; and now Golovkin, the former champion.
Terms of the deal were not announced, but given that Alvarez signed an 11-fight, $365 million deal in October (https://sports.yahoo.com/crazy-much-theyre-offering-breaking-canelo-alvarezs-supposed-365m-deal-dazn-193646258.html), it’s believed that Golovkin will make in excess of $100 million from the contract. A DAZN spokesman refused to either confirm or deny that.
The deal also calls for Golovkin’s company, GGG Promotions, to promote two shows a year on the service. It is a way for Golovkin to showcase some of the Eastern European talent he has signed.
