How long did you guys have the 8000 for television?
Do you leave the receiver on forever without turning it off?
When the receiver is turned off, the fan keeps on turning.
Do you turn it off once a day and leaves it plugged?
How long would the receiver last under heavy use?
Are there any steps that can be taken to prolong the life of
the hardware? Any ideas?

I've had mine since early 2007. It still has the original PS and the original 8psk. It only has the original fan. I've always used a laptop cooler and/or small fan blowing on it when in use. I turn the unit off at the back when not in use. Keeping it cool will prolong the life.
Just shut off with remote could be set up so fan turns off but at least you know its working no fan and its over.
Sounds like its been upgraded and will last forever if the fan keeps cooling it
You can not buy a better STB
Good luck with it
I hardly turn mine of has been running 18 hrs day for 7 years

With the one I have installed a CPU Fan in the top cover blowing air down over the PSU & Board, hardly ever gets shut off

Had my original from 2007 until last Fall/XMAS when random reboots started . was on third PS & 8PSK. On pretty much 24-7 with occasionall off . Always removed top & just left it open. Bought a refurbished SV8K along with 2 extra refurbished PS's & extra 8PSK from dMarco in FL. PS in that unit quit after a few hours which he promptly replaced!! He did get upset with me because I only gave him 4 stars on shipping/handling for one of the PS's. Even though I explained in comments it was probably the season/Post Offices fault. Lol

Had mine in 2011 and used it for iks until 2014. Only started using it again last week. Should last until the end of iks (for a max of 2 years I believe).
