Me too! Always hated doing color alignment. I still have my portable tube tester and a Tektronix scope that weighs more than I do.
I graduated in TV and radio servicing just as transistors were starting to become popular. At one time I decided to take a course in minicomputers and microprocessors but I dropped out because I figured they would never catch on.

When I was a kid we had a 17" Admiral in the bakelite cabinet and then later moved up to a giant 23" Zenith (B/W of course). No remote controls back then but it didn't matter because we only got one channel.

had a zenith with a remote control for channels only

My x-wife got half way to Florida before she found out that a 17" Admiral was a TV set...

We did too...I think the remote was called a "Space Command", or something like it.We lived on a busy road, & passing cars would cause the tv to change channels.Worked on sound.

We used to shake keys to change channels when you couldn't find the clicker.

and those tube checkers were everywhere, some tubes failed more often than others, the picture tube maybe would last a year, then slowly lasted longer, now if a tv goes bad its in the trash, there is no fixing them because there are no tech who knows how to fix them we did only have 3 channels, forget what was on the other tuner, and it all depended which way the antenna was pointed on the roof, i still have a small tv i bought in early 80's but has transistors in it

I also remember my discovery of the uhf tuner!Had several tv's with that tuner in the mid 60's, but only had a vhf antenna hooked up.One day, as a 10 year old boy, I switched out the antenna to the uhf tuner...BINGO !!!Channel 29 from Buffalo!Non-stop godzilla movies...one step beyond tv series...thought I won the lottery.lol.

This was our first TV, and the remote was my sister or me, Dad would say go turn the TV on, later we got one with the audio remote, my younger sister found out that when she played with the slinky toy it changed channels or turned off, Dad would not let her play with it near the TV set.

In those days you could look at a schematic and explain how it works and troubleshoot problems - now days the whole receiver is on one IC.

Yep, us old folks like to reminisce. Now I sit here watching my 55" Sharp Aquos HDTV and half the time I am watching the old B/W westerns and old 60's & 70's shows. At least the picture is better than the old Admiral or Philco TV when I was a kid. :tehe:

I watched "Judgement at Nuremberg" on bluray on my 4k in b&w and it was stunning.I LOVE b&w upscaled to 4k

I really don't call it ""reminiscing"" that much, but just testing the old brain cells to see if I remember that far back, and that they still work that good.
