View Full Version : Legacy lnb problems with my Dreamlink receivers-91/82 sats

Since last summer I've been using only the 91 satelite. It seems my Legacy lnb will not pick up the 82 satelite. I also noticed for a while my Dreamlink T4 receiver has a problem with the polarity ( H &V). It almost seems that it piggybacks off my other receiver (Dreamlink T5) to get polarity, ie if I'm on H polarity on the T5 my T4 receiver will need to be on H polarity, my V polarity will show red signal bar. I also need to turn on my T5 receiver in order for me to get a satelite signal on my T4 receiver.
I don't know what is going on lately but even my transponders have a different transmission, DVBS QPSK. I had a Legacy setup with two dual lnbs & 2 SW21's to my Dreamlink receivers.
Does this mean I have to switch to a Dishpro Twin lnb setup, if so what do I need & what is the setup for it.
Can I still use the Legacy setup, if so which is the preferred setup for the Legacy now.
Any help would be much apprieciated. Thanks

I have a similar setup:2 dreamlink T5s using 2 sw21 legacy switches with a 20" dishnet round dish.I have NO such issue. Both can be watched at the same time or seperately without issue, changing between sd & hd.I would look at a sw21 issue if I were you. They can & do fail, usually from water damage.

Could one or both of the power adapters be failing (not enough power being supplied) for switching between H&V polarity
or a LNB going bad.

When you say power adapters does that mean the receiver itself. I have over half a dozen lnb's, maybe Ill swap them out tomorrow. The only way I can get my H & V polarity is when I have a multi switch installed. Even with that my T4 receiver needs to be on the same polarity as the T5 receiver (H or V). When I have the SW21's hooked up I get all the transponder on my T5 receiver but on my T4 I only get the V polarity transponders.

When you say power adapters does that mean the receiver itself, Yes the power cord/adapter that plugs into wall plug
If it was the original that came with T4-5, are a Known problem to Fail, and HD module and or bad capacitors could also be your problem. Does your T4 some times show "No Signal Error" ? and the loss of some channels not coming in at all (no signal)

Yes, I had to pull the hd module out, the receiver had a hard time starting up. I had to use the toggle switch on the back to turn it off & on before it would start up after numerous tries. I was always getting a bad signal notice coming up.

Does sound more like a power supply, as Auggie suggested.

Are you operating with HD module out or back in, if back in did you make sure it was seated in correct position
(arrow on Module pointing to back of receiver) it is a process of elimination to narrow down the problem.

Presently I have have it out. I was having a hard time getting the receiver to come on. I would use the toggle switch to turn on off numerous time before it would start up. That is why I turned it off.

You could try the power adapter from the T5 on the T4 and see if it does act the same or not, also I would try and
hook up, run without any switches (direct) but from what you have said it's pointing to a Power Adapter or HD module failure ?

A good stable setup would be two DP plus single LNB's (one for 91 and one for 82) and a DPP44 switch with it's power supply, this would give you up to 3 receivers, as the power supply needs it's own coax to the #1 receiver port on the switch.(DPP44 switch power supply is not compatible when directly connected with most if not all FTA receivers)

This type of setup would solve any possible DC power problems at the receivers.

Also using this type of setup you can have almost 200 feet using good GR-6 quad coax, with a pure copper center conductor, and rated to 3 GHz, from dish LNB's/switch to the receivers.

I will order those items & install them. I will also narrow down the power problem on the T4. I suspect I will be buying a T5 sooner than later., unless somebody knows a better receiver than the T5. I will give an update after I get it up & running again. Thanks. Let me know if there is a better receiver than the T5.

I'm not sure there is a better stb than the T5.Some will say the SV, but I disagree if you're talking for north:the video can be choppy to the point of bothersome. If you're talking south, the SV is by far the best.Must be in the bin itself.
Stay with the T5 for north:I won't say how many I know of, but it's fair to say they work well.Get a SPARE DL200 & 12 volt/4 amp power supply & you will watch tv 'till the end of iks.

Suggest before you order all the new equipment, you mentioned you had extra LNB'S etc. you could test
Also try the T5 ADAPTER on the T4, My setup is with Legacy LNB'S & 4x4 muliti-switch non-powered (91/82)
All works with two T4's, try and narrow down the problem, before "Needing" more/other equipment.

When you say the "receiver had a hard time starting up" do you mean it would not even turn on? If it will not even turn on sometimes I would suspect a bad power supply inside the receiver itself, and of-coarse the more equipment you have connected to it the more issues you will have.

I found what the problem was, it was the power adaptor on the T4. I tried the t5 adaptor on the T4 & it ran a lot better on the transponders. I reinstalled the DL200, I found one my older power adaptors that had 12 volts & 2.5 amp. It now runs as it should. I hooked up my SW21's to my receivers, I am getting the 91 satelite (showing in blue in the mid 80 range, but my 82 satelite , is showing red but showing in the high 80's & low 90's. I have the right skew set on my dish for my region but there are quite a few trees where I live. This is the best place to install my dish, any lower I would be in all the branches. Any ideas why my 82 sat is showing red but it is showing a good signal even though it is showing red. Thanks for all the advice, I was able to solve one of the problems.

Under your Sat. settings (82) make sure Turbo 8PSK is enabled and your switch settings match your cable setup (on/off etc.)
if everything is setup correct you should be LOCKED ON SAT. and will show in top right corner as such (top of TV SCREEN)
If all is correct then it is a matter of a Sat. Scan (even if showing red bars)
