those springs do break from time to time, BUT you can purchase spray can lubricant at home depot for the springs and rollers, read somewhere that it helps with the constant friction on the springs so they do not break so often, now days if you break a spring the folks that sell garage doors will tell you you have to replace everything, instead of just selling you new springs and its dangerous to replace the spring, which is b/s just need some rods to tighten things back up so many turns, i have had to change mine, but its been years ago

I have replaced those torsion springs twice. You're right, just need a couple of rods to wind the spring - still scary though, I wore my chainsaw face shield and hard hat. :tehe:
