i had that happen to me on the Illinois river years ago, didn't even have a ore to paddle with, but had a rope on the engine so i didn't lose it. got rescued by the CG

Classic reason why you bolt outboard motors on skiffs . That's what those holes are for in the mounting bracket . Clamp and bolt and you will never loose one.
