I visited that place and walked up those stairs 4 years ago. What a beautiful location and the scenery is out of this world. The village houses are painted with different colours that amazes you. Food was delicious, cheap and very inexpensive. The water reservoir was a stunning blue colour with water sports in abundance. It’s not to far from Medellin but will take at least 1 to 1.5 Hours to travel by car but be careful as the mountains can be treacherous if you have never driven in Colombia before.
And imagine approximately 10 years ago, Guatape was a no travel zone because of the farc rebels controlling those remote areas in the illicit drug trade. The ex president Uribe pushed them the place has become a hot tourist attraction.
