Got a hold of a very cheap T5 but it doesnt have a power cable. Are these something you can get easily? Would an electronics store have them?

if it has a 2.5mm center positive, then yes.Auggie knows his stuff.
If you're in Canada,Sayal has a 4 amp power supply that works great, for 20 bucks

Yes, long as the Plug on the end Fits the T5, and I believe it does. If in doubt order a adapter along with it
which includes all different size end plugs.

Well, The Source now.....lol. I use laptop cooling fans. Can get them around here for under $10. Got a nice surprise after buying the T5 for $20. Didnt come with a power cord but had the dl200 in it....:)

Was also wondering.....This is for my neighbour and he has a DP Plus dish. It was for dishnetwork but he is aimed at the north sats. Ive always used a diseq switch so what would I have to put in the dish settings?

auggie

I believe the DP Plus setup has internal switching built-in and some what of a power hog, so you may need
a power inserter, or SW44 switch ?

squirtNcider

He already has north subscribed but its ending soon. I figured I could just swap out the bell receiver and replace with this one and just adjust the settings in the dish set up. Im going to test it this afternoon so Ill report back if it worked or not........

Terryl

If he has the DP plus triple LNB then he will need a DP 44 power inserter to run it, there are very few if any FTA receivers that can run that LNB without power supply problems. (now or in the future)

Also be careful as there are two types of these LNB's, one for the West coast, and one for the East coast, the one for the East is setup differently, it has different satellite spacing, and will not work too good for the Northern satellites.

The power inserter will have to be on it's own coax out to the #1 port on the LNB,(the DP44 power inserter does not play very well with FTA stuff) this gives him two ports (#2 and 3) for the receiver, #4 is an input for a 118W type LNB.

The DP+ LNB needs at least 400 mA at about 20 volts DC to run right, it was never designed to be used with anything else but an OEM receiver or an OEM switch. Most FTA receivers can run at 500 mA at about 18 volts if that, it's very hard on FTA power supply's.

If he is only looking at the Northern satellites then a DP twin LNB should be used, this type of LNB will work fine for most FTA receivers.

Also the DP plus LNB's (dual, 3 way and 4 way satellite selection) have an internal switch, so don't use an external Diseqc switch with them.

Ok, so I went and unhooked the subbed box and hooked up the T5. The only thing I found was to have the lnb type at OCS-DP. I then got all of 91 but only a handful of channels on 82.
First thing.....Can I buy a DP 44 power inserter still? Last thing, can I just take the lnb off and replace with a standard single lnb with the holder for the other lnb?

auggie

Do you plan on using the sub box & the T5 together or just the T5 (north sats only)??

Yes I see the inserters on flebay all the time.........The single or dual/twin DP LNB in some cases will not directly fit on the LNB mounting arm on the dish1000, you have to find an adapter or take just the 3 headed LNB off but leave the LNB's plastic holder, then two DP singles will fit,(I have not tried a DP dual) or get a dish 500, the mounting holes on some of the dish 1000's are slightly different.

And remember the signals criss-cross each other, so the 82 satellite on a dish 1000 setup will be on the right side looking from the back of the dish, you then have 91 dead center, on a dish 500 setup the dish needs to be pointing in-between the two satellite, at 86.5 degrees.(4.5 degrees off East or West)

auggie
08-07-2020, 01:09 AM
A dish 500 with 2- Legacy LNB's too a SW21 or Disque switch, one line 91 one line 82 to SW21 or Disque
would work with T5

Only using the T5 after the sub expires. The DP44 power inserters are around $100 on ebay. I have an old 3 lnb dish still on my deck out back so I have extra ones for sure. So I can use the plastic holder from what is there now and 2 of my lnbs from my dish that Im not using? Kinda like replacing the lnbs that are currently in the dp plus with 2 of mine?

Terryl

The little plastic LNB holder will only work on dish or bell LNB's, those are the type you have right?

And look here for a better deal on the power inserter.......

They are the standard dual lnbs that are used for (old days) directv, bell or dishnetwork. Do I just take the dp plus plastic holder apart and insert 2 of the standard lnbs? If I do end up getting the power inserter, do I leave the settings on the T5 at OCS-DP? There is no DP plus option in the dish settings.

I actually found this one on Kijiji shipped to me for $25. This is what I need correct?

All you can do is TRY it, would hook it up without diseq switch first, lock in one at a time, Say 91 locked in then 82
Add in the diseq switch after you have both working Good first

OK, there are two types of LNB holders that will take a single DP LNB, the normal LNB holder for the Dish 1000 will not fit a single DP type LNB on it, it will only work with the Dish 1000 LNB mounting arm.

The two LNB holders for single DP type LNB are shown below, the 3 LNB DP type will only fit the Dish 1000 arm, the 2 LNB DP type will only fit the Dish 500 arm, you can see the difference, and they are not interchangeable.

Sorry it's a bit out of focus, my old camera doesn't quite focus too good at short distances.

Terryl

This is the one for the Dish 1000 newer style Eastern or Western arc LNB's, it will only hold the newer style triple head LNB's it will not hold the DP single or DP dual/twin LNB's, and it will not fit on a Dish 500 arm.

28624

Terryl

What I have done during my experimental stages is to use the Dish 500 mast and LNB mount with a Dish 1000 pan, the Dish 1000 pan gives you a bit more signal to the dual/twin LNB setup.

28625

This setup is with a Dish 500 mount and arm, a Dish 1000 pan will bolt right on.

OK, they will fit, you do not have a standard dish1000, so I don't see a problem, but the dish he has will not work too good with the 3 satellite LNB's, first it is not aimed right for 110, 119 and 129, second it's way too small, it doesn't have a 20 degree beam width.

squirtNcider
08-10-2020, 04:53 PM
I dont want 110/119.....His dish is aimed at 82/91 which is what we want. I was hoping to just put my 3 lnb holder on his dish (only use 2 lnb's) and get 82/91 without re-aiming.

Terryl
08-10-2020, 05:38 PM
Ahhhh...But still, you will have to re-aim, as the double LNB dish is not aimed right for a triple LNB setup, the double LNB dish it set to be aligned in-between the two satellites, the triple head LNB setup has 119 (or what ever you were looking at) as the center satellite, you would have to tweak the dish for better reception on the outside satellite.

Even if you only used the two outside LNB's it would still be off by 5 degrees on both...82/91 = a 9 degree spread, divided by 2 = a 4.5 degree offset (center focal point)....110/119/129 = a 19 degree spread, with 119 in the center the two outside LNB's are at a 9.5 degree offset from center, and are too far apart to work for 81/91.

You would have to use the center LNB and one of the outside LNB's, without re-aiming it wouldn't work too good.

squirtNcider
08-10-2020, 08:25 PM
Ok, so if I just use the middle lnb for 91 for starters, once locked in, can I just put an lnb on the right side to get 82 or will it have to be skewed?

Also, did you say in an above post that I can remove the lnb's from the dp plus and put in 2 standard lnb's? The ones from my dish would be rectangle shaped where the coax goes so I assume I would need the oval shaped ones. Is this possible? I just have a helluva time aiming dishes......lol

Terryl
08-10-2020, 09:10 PM
The DP Dish 500 LNB holder will not fit any after market FTA type LNB, it will only hold DP type "D" based LNB's, two DP standard single satellite LNB's will fit, but not from another type dish.

If your LNB's are the square type bottoms they wont fit the DP type LNB holder.

And you would have to re-aim the dish if you use your LNB's and holder.

If he has the DP twin LNB, (Dual satellite LNB in one housing) and has an FTA receiver with at least 500 mA DC output then he should not need the power inserter...

You only need the extra DC power when you have a tripe head Dish 1000 LNB, they are the power hogs.

That LNB has it's own internal switch, Diseqc switch port #1 should be 91W, Diseqc switch port #2 should be 82W, OCS-DP should be the LNB type.

Terryl
08-12-2020, 12:18 AM
Now one additional problem, the coax used with DP type LNB's needs to be swept to 2.5 or rated to 3 GHz, this because the DP type LNB use band stacking to get all the transponders down one coax, if the coax used is not rated for those frequency's (marked on coax) then you may have transponder problems.

Coax used for cable or off air TV will not work too good with these LNB's, it's only rated out to 1 GHz.....

All he has is the dish plus shown in the pic and the bell receiver. BUT, the cable thats coming inside the house, just before the receiver connection, does have a switch that has 2 outputs. One for 91 and the other 82.
The cable Ghz may be a prob though. May just go with the 2 head lnb holder and diseq. Only use diseq for now as I have a few laying around instead of buying the sw21.

I use a square tupperware bowl with a snap on lid thats just big enough for the switch, it's water tight and weather proof, you can also paint it the same color as the house, drill a few holes in one side for the coax and mount it and the switch to the wall (or under the eaves with the holes for the coax facing down) snap the lid on and your set.

A quick note, the DP44 switch is water proof, if you use good weather tight coax connectors you would not need anything to cover it.

Those (pic) look like legacy LNB's so in Dish settings use single, and in switch setting SW21-1 OR SW21-2 (91-82) Depending on
how cabling is configured, You don't need to use a Disque switch, the SW21 combines two Sat's into one cable to Receiver
If you plan on using more than 1-Receiver then you would use a Multi-Switch or 2-SW21's to 2-Receivers

Ok, it all worked well until yesterday. Lost signal on everything. I switched from the sw-21 to a chieta diseq and it came back on. 2 hours later, same thing. I ended up running a cable directly from the one of the lnb's to the receiver. It worked for 20 min. and then no signal again. I switched the lnb's from the holder to see if that was the prob. 20 min and the same thing. If I reboot the receiver when the signal goes out, I get another 20 min. before it goes out again.
I did buy the dish and lnb's used but they both looked in perfect condition and it did work for a few weeks with no probs. I ordered a couple new lnb's from Amazon but wanted to know if this could be a receiver problem and if anyone has ever came across this before?

No Signal shows up after 20 min. or so but the picture is still on. Once I change the channel, it totally goes out. Do you think it could be the power supply that plugs into the wall? It is the brick type. I did notice that it was fairly hot but it ran that way when I had it at my house, although, I never had it on very often where my neighbor has it on all the time. The receiver I found for him didnt come with a power supply so I gave him mine till I found another one.

You want one like these: hxxps://www.amazon.ca/Topled-Light-Universal-100-240V-Lighting/dp/B01MCXGTH3/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=AC+to+DC+12V+3A+Power+Supply&qid=1599700549&s=electronics&sr=1-6

It was the one I have used since the day I got it......Many years ago.
Could both LNB's be bad at the same time? They were used when bought.

Then I would say your Power adapter is bad or on it's way out, is your problem

Ok, Ill try that....Never even thought about that. Ill try the power adapter from my other T5. We can easily return the lnb's if we dont need them.

Also make sure you have additional COOLING measures (fans) in place keeping the T5 from Heating up
Heat issues can cause all sorts of problems

I always have a fan running with the T5. Like I said, its way cheaper than frying the HD module.
Well, put my power supply on my neighbors T5 and seems to be good at the moment. Would never have thought that could be the prob. We were starting to think it was the cable in the wall, which would have been a pain running a new one. You saved me a lot of time and now I can cancel the Amazon lnb order now.
Thanks again!
